Can someone PLEASE tell me why all these great studios have lost the ability to come up with new ideas? I don’t get it! Do we really NEED another Miami Vice, The Honeymooners, Brady Bunch, King Kong, The Little Rascals, the Poseidon Adventure (c’mon help me here) and now the Clash of the Titans? It’s really sad. How long before Warner Bros remakes Angels with Dirty Faces or Casablanca. Or there’s a new Gone with the Wind. Does that mean in the future they’re remake Forrest Gump or Jaws or Close Encounters or E.T.? So many talented people out there with fresh new and enterttaining ideas and they go and sink 300 mill into sometihng that was cool from the getgo. And it probably won’t be as good either. Sigh…

I remember the first time I saw Clash of the Titans way back when I was a little fella when it first came on HBO. The Medusa sequence freaked me out, and the clockwork owl was cool as all get out. This may have been the first time I’ve seen Ray Harryhausen’s brilliant work. Didn’t know the name until years later, but the work still stood the test of time.
Now, Warner Bros. is remaking THIS movie? Why? The original still resonates with filmgoers, and it’s still availiable to those who want it. The entertainment industry hasn’t had a truly original idea since 1967, but this alleged creative drought continues to make waves out of dust. Seriously, did we really need TWO remakes of The Poseidon Adventure within a 12-month span (November’s MOTW version on NBC and Warner’s recent theatrical version). Heck, I recently learned they’re remaking Revenge of the Nerds. If they want to remake something, how about remaking something that was alright or bad with something truly new to make it better or at least vastly different enough to warrant the need to remake it other than a quick commercial appeal that’ll look good on an IMAX screen. I know there are original ideas somewhere, but the industry needs to remove their heads to actually want to find it.

Can you picture them scratching their heads in their big boardroom? “I wonder why no one goes to the movies anymore. Why are ticket sales down? Must be we haven’t remade the Jeffersons and All in The Family yet. That’ll bring them back! Oh yeah and we’ll redo Old Yeller too! Hey why not Wizard of Oz?” New Ideas! New Ideas! New Ideas!
