4:30AM 1962
Dave Kirwan’s nostalgic blog postings yesterday, brought me to posting this blog.
This is just a little trip back in time with me and my brother.
Every morning we used to get up around 4:30 to 5AM every morning, turn on the Magnavox black and white TV and stare at the indian TV test pattern; waiting for networks to begin their daily broadcast and waiting for cartoons to come on!
As you might know, most TV stations shut down right after midnight and started up around 5AM.
Anyway; my earliest memories of TV cartoon watching started with a half-hour stare at the indian head test pattern followed up by TerryToons cartoons!
WOW! Even though it was still dark out, we were there.
TerryToons’ Farmer Al Falfa, Heckle and Jeckle and the rest of the black and white cartoon gang was the way to start the day. Pat Sullivan’s Felix the Cat was right there too!
Anyway; that’s how my cartoon career began and that’s why I’m up every morning at 5AM drawing cartoons!
That’s it for now!
Take care and thanks for letting me share that with you all!
I sense “TV test pattern” blog art coming. OH NOOOOOO!!!
Your Cartoon Pal…….. Jeff

You’ve attracted quite a B list celebrity crowd with this latest post Jeff. It’s like a VH1 special in here. I can totally get nostalgic with you. I remember getting up so early on Saturday that cartoons wouldn’t even be on, patiently waiting for my weekly dosage of SUPERFRIENDS, LAFF-O-LYMPICS, SPIDER-MAN and his AMAZING FRIENDS and yes even the most beloved SMURFS. Godbless those little blue bastards. Of course back then you only had 5 channels to chose from and only 3 of them showed cartoons for about 5 hours on Saturday and that was it….if you missed it you cursed yourself out for the whole week! My kids will never understand the magic that came with waiting for Saturday morning….and now if I want a taste of being a kid I can just turn on BOOMERANG or pop in a DVD, but it’s not the same as when you had to wait for it.
