Okay! This is my first post since Halloween! I know I’ve been lagging but I have been hard at work! And to prove it here’s a whole bunch of characters from Teapot!
As always, please give us some feedback on the characters- what’s good and what’s bad. Your vote on Silkbone’s colors was a huge help.
Here’s my entry into the Nick Jackolantern contest- the Jackogobkin! Complete with horns, tail and claws- it’s made entirely of pumpkin. There were some really impressive entries. I think my favorite was the widow pumpkin crying over the can of pumpkin squash. Have a great Halloween! -Dahveed!
Today Greg and I worked on coming up with a cool color scheme for the character Silkbone. Silkbone is the #1 rapper who is top on the charts! He’s also Teapot’s idol. I’ll post the colored images soon. -Dahveed!
Hey everyone, this is Dahveed again! Today I decided I would actually impart some useful information into the storyboarding process and show off some nifty art. As you may know, storyboards go through draft after draft. I did at least three different versions of the Teapot boards before we got the green light at Frederator. But there are also two drastically different types of boards one may use when embarking on a project- the Presentation or Pitch Board and the Production board.
Above are two panels I created for the initial Presentation Board. These panels depict the famous explosive bowels scene from Teapot. For the presentation at Frederator you will generally come in with between 30 and 70 pages of boards (2 boards a page) to pitch your project. Any more than 70 and you get some mean looks- trust me. These will usually only contain the key beats of [Read more…]
Oh Yea! We passed mustard! Everyone was really pleased with the production storyboards by Alex Almajuer. Our Director Bob Alvarez was also present and gave encouraging comments. Larry Huber gave some excellent editing suggestions. Everyone was genuinely pleased including us- Dahveed and Greg!
Our only regret was that we could not incorporate the Teapot theme song in its entirety. We will incorporate a piece of it in the opening titles and will post it up here later to see what you guys think.
We’re very excited that we’re off to a great start!
Hey! This is Dahveed! I’m the creative director of Smorgasbord Productions, a creative media emporium (aka. studio) and very pleased to be character designer and a storyboard artist on Teapot! It’s been a thrill working with my partner, the incredibly talented Greg Eagles (aka. Grim)! His writing and music are going to make this truly a unique project!
To keep everyone updated on the entire process of making a toon I hereby make a solemn pledge to post on the blog EVERY DAY! So…today is our re-pitch of the Teapot storyboard at 3pm! So check back around 4 and I’ll give a complete blow-by-blow account of each earth shattering second of our pitch! Oh yea! -DKN-
Hi everyone. Greg Eagles here. I am a writer/actor. For all you animation fans I can currently be heard as the voice of “Grim” on the “Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy” on the Cartoon Network. I love animation and doing voices for cartoon characters so much I decided to create my own. And with the help of my talented partner, character designer and illustrator Dahveed Kolodny-Nagy, “Teapot” was born. Teapot is an 11 year old African American boy who was weaned on hip-hop and his big dream is to become a rap superstar. Except there’s one problem. He was born with NO rhythm! His rhymes are whack, and so is is timing. Think of a singer who can’t carry a tune and you might have some idea as to his particular lack of talent. But like most people with limited abilities, he has an ego to compensate for his [Read more…]
