The Storyboard Process
Hey everyone, this is Dahveed again! Today I decided I would actually impart some useful information into the storyboarding process and show off some nifty art. As you may know, storyboards go through draft after draft. I did at least three different versions of the Teapot boards before we got the green light at Frederator. But there are also two drastically different types of boards one may use when embarking on a project- the Presentation or Pitch Board and the Production board. ![]()
Above are two panels I created for the initial Presentation Board. These panels depict the famous explosive bowels scene from Teapot. For the presentation at Frederator you will generally come in with between 30 and 70 pages of boards (2 boards a page) to pitch your project. Any more than 70 and you get some mean looks- trust me. These will usually only contain the key beats of your story.![]()
Above is the much more detailed Production Board of the same scene created by the amazing talented Alex Almaguer (board artist on Grim). The Production Board contains not only every key beat of the story but every key character pose, action and transition. This can be as long as it needs to be since it will eventually be sent to the animators overseas and needs to convey exactly what they will be animating. Eventually it will also contain timing notes from our talented director, Robert Alvarez. Obviously this board is much bigger. Ours is at 161 pages.

Thank you for educating your fans. I appreciate your informing us about the cartooning process. I look forward to the future blogs. The best to the whole Teapot team!

It is about time for such an urban, educating and entertaining animation such as Teapot! Teapot is over due and so is exhibiting the creative and talented mind of Greg Eagles. I know his work over the years from stand-up to animation voice-overs. I think it would be a hit! I love the music theme…lol!

This is great! I’m a real cartoon freak, form the weird to the mainstream. I can’t wait to see how this series turns out. I like it already.
