Random! Screening A Certified Blast
I know I always say we pack the Nick gym to the gunwales when we have one of our Random! Cartoons screenings, but tonight we really did. (A big sorry to the folks we had to turn away.) We screened half a dozen shorts, had a quick panel discussion with the filmmakers, and an even quicker Q&A. A good time was had by all. If you were there, back me up. Thanks to those who showed up.
In the picture, you can see our panel of cartoon titans. Thanks for paneling.
The boys, snips and snails, left to right: Jerry Beck; Pen Ward; Doug TenNapel.
The girls, sugar and spice, left to right: Rita Street; Melissa Wolfe; Anne Walker; Niki Yang.
Finally, a sincere thanks to ASIFA-Hollywood and Nickelodeon for being such fantastic supporters of Frederator and Random! Cartoons.

I had a blast last night and everybody thought I was wearing my hood to be a pretentious prick. I was really covering a nasty skin cancer operation on my neck. I think I perfer being seen as a prick than show a superficial imperfection in this town.
Anyways, I loved the cartoons and completely flipped out over Pen’s ADVENTURE TIME! I’ve run into Pen now for about 3 or 4 years and it’s great to see him smash one out of the part on his first go. I was talking with Kevin Kolde afterwards and we were admiring his perfect comedic timing. I don’t know if that’s something you can learn in a class and it certainly doesn’t look like he’d have enough experience to pull it off but he really knows how to craft and present a gag.
I loved all the food…bacon-wrapped mushrooms, juicy garlic bread, I had a honkin’ glass of wine (to deaden the scorching pain on my neck) and bummed cigarettes off Kevin…which is kind of an ongoing ritual between us now.
I also have to mention how impressed I am with the directing on BONEHEADS. That’s some aggressive story-telling and I learned a lot from that guy.
It was weird showing Solomon Fix in front of a live audience because people always laugh at stuff I thought was a throw-away joke then don’t laugh at my big funny moments. Audiences are tricky to second guess but you could tell that they LOVED cartoons and were digging on all 6 for the individual merits of each. There’s nothing better than showing a cartoon to a bunch of committed cartoon lovers.

**** Thank you kindly to the woman with the albuterol inhaler, it really saved me last night. **** There were a lot of good fart jokes at the screening. it was difficult with my shallow breath, but i managed to laugh at every one of em. I think every one of the cartoons had a fart joke or at least a butt joke? The fart jokes in adventure time are subtle.. and sometimes.. you don’t even know the characters are farting.. but they are. So.. everyone rest assured.. we’re churning out teh quality here at Frederator. i know it’s hard to read that without putting a sarcastic tone on it.. but i’m very serious about tooting. So yeah… ROCKIN!
