Missing “Remixing The Magic”

February 20th, 2006

So, Friday night, I braved a rainy LA rush hour to head to Gallery 1988 in Hollywood for the opening night of “Remixing the Magic”, a Jon Gibson-curated art show with hot shot talent taking a whack at interpreting classic Disney characters. After sitting in traffic, I got there only to find a line of several dozen people outside the door, waiting patiently to get inside the door. Naturally, I immediately threw in the towel, crossed the street to Pink’s, ate a couple of chili dogs with sauerkraut, then went home.

Too bad, because I missed seeing a bunch of what I’m sure was (and still is) terrific art by the likes of Alex Kirwan (that’s his “Skeleton Dance” above), Amanda Visell (that’s her Dumbo below), Carlos Ramos, Tim Biskup, Dave Wasson, Michelle Valigura, and tons of others. The good news, of course, is that I can schlep back out some night soon when the maddening crowds won’t be quite so, well, maddening. If you’re in the area, you should, too.

PS I swiped the images off Amid’s post over at Cartoon Brew. Thanks, Amid.
