After a terrible (but in a good way) screening of Jerry Beck’s “Worst Cartoons Ever” Saturday night, I got to meet one of the folks behind one of the half dozen blogs I check on a daily basis. His name is Ward Jenkins and he’s a contributer to Drawn!, a site which I’m guessing is already bookmarked by nearly everyone who’s interested in cool art. Ward’s pretty cool himself, and besides his Drawn! work, he has his own blog and is a director & designer at Primal Screen, an animation and design company in Atlanta. It was good meeting you, Ward.

On Thursday afternoon, Melissa and I hoofed it out to one of the many Ottawa buildings with the word “Arts” in its name for this year’s student film screening, hands down my favorite screening of the festival. The highlight was, hands down again, my favorite film of the festival: a 2004 Israeli film called Vered Dont Die and Other Stories (Vered al tamuti ve od sipurim). It’s an extremely disturbing film and not the sort I generally look for, but it’s so stuck in my mind since seeing it. The filmmaker’s name is Yanai Pery and he’s a graduate from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. I can only look forward to more work by Yanai.

Hey, Eric — it was a pleasure meeting you, as well. Thanks for the nice write-up! Ottawa was a blast, wasn’t it? Can’t wait to go again next year. Great stuff you got here — keep it up!
