Super John Doe Junior

FROM THE TECHNO-LAME!

February 21st, 2006

Another post from the front lines of the techno-challenged:

Great to get feedback from other bloggers about “Super John Doe Junior”, especially since the only image posted thus far was a little sketch I hurriedly whipped up for Melissa during my visit to Frederator last week. More visuals will eventually follow — not quite exactly precisely positively sure when, but it won’t be long until you see some other characters. Without giving too much away about the story, I’ll tell you that you can expect to become acquainted with a villain sporting an odd-shaped noggin, a dog who speaks with a British accent, and an alien who (depending on what color we choose) looks like either a giant pickle or a monstrous potato. And I know my potatoes — remember, I’m from Maine.

And now, back to the drawing board. (Actually, I don’t have a real drawing board. It’s just a desk. But “back to the desk” just doesn’t cut it.) Anyway, I’m refining the character designs and starting on the turnarounds.

All for now, more to come.

Awsome Lincoln! You seem to have a great variation of characters!!! Nothing like any other cartoon on Oh Yeah Season 4! so far! A british Dog, Alien, a weird shaped head villian! Wow great variety! Good luck with your short! talk soon! -Steve

My affection for “weird shaped head” villains must come from my boyhood fascination with Dick Tracy. That strip had the most memorable, bizarre villains, bar none! Flat Top, Pruneface, “The Blank”…the list goes on!

Btw, From what i’ve seen of Super John Doe Junior, he looks like he would look amazing if he was flash animated. Not sure exactly which style you’re going for tho. Just a tip :) -Steve

It takes time to develop materials Link, mind if I call you that? Sounds like a cool cop name. I was in character and development for months before I even pitched. I feel like I really need to know the characters look and the style of their world before I can really tell a story. …….Sounds like an ecclectic mix of characters. Good luck with it.

Plenty of folks call me Linc, and yes, it IS a cool cop name! Who can forget Clarence Williams III in “The Mod Squad”? Anyway, finding the right animation style, “look”, etc. is a fun challenge for a non-animator like myself. I’ve got a very clear idea in my mind’s eye about how I want this thing to look, and hopefully I’ll do an OK job of conveying that to the crew that works on this short.

It’s great to have you here, Lincoln. Put up some more artwork soon! We wanna see!
