THERE’S A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING
Be forewarned, blog readers: not only is this my first blog entry for Frederator, this is my first blog entry. Period. Of any kind. In the techno-savvy department, I would place myself somewhere between Alley Oop (the caveman of comic strip fame) and one of those confused soldiers who is discovered on an island in the Pacific and is convinced World War II is still being fought. Which is reminding me of an old “Johnny Quest” episode, but I’ll leave that for another time.
I’m Lincoln, I’m happy to be here, and I’m looking forward to working with all the good folks at Frederator on “Super John Doe Junior.” As Melissa mentioned in her very kind welcome to me, I zipped out to LA this week from my home here in Maine for a pitch/get acquainted visit. All went well and I had a great time. Many thanks to the multi-talented Therese Trujillo for chauffering me around town!
Due to my techno-lameness, it will be a little while until I equip myself to start posting artwork. In the meantime, though, take a gander at “Big Nate”, the comic strip I’ve done for the past 15+ years. It’s at:

All for now, but more to come!

Hi, Lincoln! Nice work… Checked out Big Nate as well. Don’t worry re: tech/blogging capability. The Frederator folks, as you’ve already experienced, are very patient and helpful! You’ll be blogging along in no time. Out of curiosity, where in Maine? I spent a bit of time up in Caribou, Ft. Fairfield, that area… Congrats on your show! Can’t wait to see more! Best, Lina

Hi Lina. Caribou? Yikes. That’s way up-county. I’m considerably farther south, in Portland. My wife and I moved up here in ‘92 from NY, NY, the city so nice they named it twice. Good to hear from you!

Lincoln,
Like your comic-strip. I read it several times in newspapers.
Being in syndication business must be harder than most people thinks, so how do you work on animation and the comic-strip at the same time?

Wait. Am I supposed to be working on the comic strip? Anyway, Charles, the long answer to your question is way too boring. Here’s the short answer: it’s 12:10 am right now and I’m not in bed yet. I’ll be giving up sleep for Lent.
Can I call you “Chuck”, like Peppermint Patty always calls Charlie Brown? Please advise.

Sure, you can call me Chuck.

Welcome Lincoln! Blogging or not, we love your talent, and we’re thrilled to be producing your cartoon with you.

Hi Fred, thanks for the kind words. I’ve already been encouraged by Eric to get myself down to NYC to meet you in person and mooch a free meal. It’s actually not too long a trip, assuming my sled dogs remain in good health. Looking forward to it!

Welcome about fellow East Sider and fellow comic book artist. Glad someone is around to get my back….even if you are miles away…

Yeah, I’m here. But I’m actually a comic strip dude, not comic books. I can’t draw well enough to do something that substantial. But that doesn’t mean I’m not a huge fan of comic books. Years ago I was way into much of the Marvel stuff, along with the classic Carl Barks Disney stories. Nowadays there’s just too much stuff out there to keep up with, but I always put a plug in for one of my heroes, Ben Katchor. If you’ve never seen “Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer”, check it out!

Steve, I’ve already heard and read your name all over the place in my relatively brief time at Frederator, and I really admire your enthusiasm for cartoons. I’m sure there’s a whole lot of success in this industry ahead for you. Thanks for checking in.
