“Squirly Town” Record!
Hey Everyone! Melissa Wolfe here, reporting for Doug TenNapel. Doug is indisposed at the moment…no Doug! I can’t play one more round of Tetris with you. I’m trying to blog.
This morning Doug TenNapel directed his voice record for his second short, “Squirly Town”, featuring the voice talents of Bobcat Goldthwait and Stephen Root. I came in right as they were about to begin their “Amigo Tu Amigo” song, and it was VERY fun to watch. Squirly Town is centered on two squirrels who are unlikely friends. When straight laced Lance (Root) discovers that his pal Zoopie (Goldthwait) has put a pet tarantula in the accorn butter sold to a customer, he gets a bit stressed. To help him decompress, Zoopie leads him on an adventure to cure him of his anxiety. A full body cast for Lance soon follows.
I was admittedly a bit star struck at the record, because I remember Bobcat from one of my favortie tapes of all time, KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas Tape (I think it was 1994). He did a sketch called Christmas Stories With Uncle Bobcat where he would tell sick and twisted stories to little kids and make them cry. My sister and I played that one over and over. Stephen Root, I discovered also does the voice of a great character named Chode on a show called “Tripping the Rift”. Lovin’ it!

Bobcat is cool, I’ll always remember him as “That guy from POLICE ACADEMY”. Stephen Root is the best. He played one of my favorite “bossman” characters ever. JIMMY JAMES on NEWSRADIO!

Yeah these guys are awesome! Stephen Root also played Milton Waddams from Office Space. Loved News Radio too. Great character. I also have to say I am a huge Trippin’ the Rift fan. Seen every one of them and while the animation is so-so the voices make the show. Bobcat was amazing when he launched onto the scene back in the 80’s too with his odd sense of timing and his gravely voice. Excellent voice choices.

Stephen Root also does a few characters on King of the Hill. I remember sitting next to him at some obscure film awards show, and he was very kind and gave me a hug when I won.

Doug, what’s with pointing the fake gun at Stephen Root? Was he not performing well and you needed to give him some extra “motivation?” Man, ever since you played Lord Octopon (sp?) you’ve been different.

the other day, i got excited cause i saw a rumbling truck on the freeway with vinyl letters on the back that read: got bobcat? and I was sooo excited about the possibility of that being Bobcat Goldthwait and how he advertised himself. ya know, for like rent and stuff.
but sadly as i caught up with the driver, i saw he was a middleaged, large mustacheod hispanic man, and not Bobcat. And it was for Bobcat plumbing rentals or something whack like that.
Good to see doug putting Bobcat to use again.
awesome blossom,
JX
