Sparkles and Gloom

Wicked!

May 31st, 2006

storyboard_01.jpg

A page from our rapidly expanding storyboard, taken from the middle of Sparkles’ and Gloom’s first big fight scene. It would seem that, while good powers give you the ability to bring back disco acts, evil powers give you the ability to turn your bratty twin sister into the self-proclaimed “King of Pop?” Amazing.

I’ve also been listening to the ultra-cheesy (and ultra-AWESOME) “Wicked” soundtrack as I draw. One of our followers on Deviantart suggested that SnG could be called “The Xs” meets “Wicked.” With this on the brain, I came out with this little doodle imagining what our heroines might look like in 10 years or so. Is that a Broadway role I see in their future? Or maybe just more fight scenes…

…Back to drawing. :)

Funny storyboard! And cool characters! -Steve http://www.stephenstudios.com

Anne, your characters are great! -Steve http://www.stephenstudios.com

Thanks, Steve! I hear you’re going to be at Comicon this year?

Yes I am! I’m gonna meet everyone at the studio, but the comic con is gonna be great! I cant wait !!!

Will you be there?

I’ll be there–at the MTK/SnG/Teapot booth with Dahveed, hawking buttons and furitively drawing lemurs when no one is looking.

What an awsome coincidence. Im gonna be with Dahveed! I’ll be at the same booth as you! :D

Wicked….was a really, really weird book. I mean really. Weird. The musical, however, as you mentioned, is rather cheeseball.

Yeah, I tried to listen to the book on tape and got only about 1/4 of the way through. Nothing like long philosophical rants mixed with hot munchkin action to make you want to read further!

The musical’s cheeseball you gotta love, though. I tried to see it when it was out at the Pantageous, but no luck. :(

You know what musical’s great? Avenue Q! YEaH! Rawks!

*sings* We live on AVENUE Q! Our friends do too…TILL OUR dreams come true–we live on Avenue Q. (”Rent” is awesome as well!)

Love the sketches. I’m sure if Sparkles and Gloom go to series in about 5 years the spin off would be ALL GROWED UP. Save that sketch for later. There is something Craig McCraken-ish about your style….I love it! What is this DEVIANT ART thing? Can you expain that in 100 words or less?

Fear not, Manny. I will call you this week to give you Deviant Art training. Boot camp style.

Love the drawings. I love how when Gloom turns into a piece of toast, her eyes look Marty Feldman-esque!!! You must be a Young Frankenstein fan after all. LOVE IT!!! And I just love the overall scene, great writing Melissa.
