Knots in the Knees

Since we’re featuring all Popeye cartoons this week on ReFrederator, now might be an opportune moment to observe how much time Olive Oyl spent tied up in these films. Now, it’s not just that she was the most trussed up cartoon character in animated history — that in itself is probably worth some in depth analysis — but the wretched woman had to endure the repeated indignity of being tethered up with her own rubbery appendages! I mean, Bluto is so lazy, he couldn’t find a rope? Does anyone else out there find all this limb-knotting a wee bit disturbing?
