Rats! Someone has trademarked my cartoon name.
Just a warning and a little help for the cartoon creators out there.
We love the name Ratzafratz! for our show, but in the beginning it was called ‘Mall Rats’. A little bit too on the nose you might think, since the show is about rats in a mall.
However, we were told that ‘Mall Rats’ was trademarked and we had to find another name.
Who could have trademarked such a name?
Not Kevin Smith, who made the film ‘Mallrats’ in 1995 and apologized for making it in 1997. You can not copyright a title.
Who then?
Cadbury Chocolates. (Cadbury Adams Canada Inc.)
I guess if you want to eat chocolate in a mall, it should look like a rat.
If you want to check out any possible names you might have for a project, you can to a basic search on the US Trademark website.
Here’s a link to the search page:
Ps. Special thanks go out to Jim’s mom, Joanne Gibson of Louisville, Kentucky, for giving us the great name ‘Ratzafratz’ (Not trademarked, whew!).
Pps. Don’t forget to check out the rats MySpace pages

Fascinating! Great link! I was surprised how easily I was able to trademark the names “Jim” and “Karl” for myself.

Love the style guys! I just trademarked the word TRADEMARK… so you now owe me money for writing it. I’ll take a check.
