Random! Cartoons Logo

CG Ping Pong Ball logo

August 15th, 2006

Here’s a still of the CG version of the ping pong ball logo. It’s not as simple as it looks.

The word “cartoons” is actually made up of seperate pieces of geometry letters, whose primary visibility is turned off, yet they cast shadows.

The balls have their primary visibility turned on, but they are set to not cast shadows.

The letters are then point constrained with offset (X and Z axis only) to their corresponding ball so that the balls bounce around the scene, yet always cast a consistant letter shadow.

Cant wait to see the final thing!

Why not map a texture of the letters on the balls?

We did map a texture of the letters on the balls for the “RANDOM!” and “Nickelodoeon” balls, but the word “Cartoons” is supposed to look like a shadow, which is what it is in our piece.
