David Chai and gang shared the hilarious Stoopid Movie with Channel Frederator this week.
Stoopid Movie is following in the footsteps of it’s live action film relative, The Kentucky Fried Movie. This is possibly what would’ve happened if the Zucker Bros. had gotten into animation, rather than film!
Channel Frederator asked David a few questions! Check his answers out down below!

1) Where do you get your sense of humor from? And was this a group effort?
My sense of humor is probably stolen from all of the Mad magazines I read as a child. In terms of production, all of the projects I work on are group efforts. Idea wise, I did come up with the majority of concepts for this one, though our group edited them down, and people added several scenes.

2) Who are some of your influences?
There are too many! I love the illustrations of my colleague Courtney Granner, animation of Bill Plympton, and comics of Patrick McDonnell
… to name a few.

3) How long did it take to produce this, from start to finish? And can you describe your process?
The whole thing took about three or four weeks. This was a weird one because I was using it to teach a simple animation process to one of the classes at San Jose State University, so I wasn’t sure how well it would turn out. After committing to the content, each person was responsible for animating one shot. We went from pencil on paper, inked the drawings, scanned them, colored in Photoshop, and edited it in Premiere Pro.

4) What is your favorite segment in this? My favorite has to be Panama Birth Canal, hands down. What is your least favorite segment?
I like “Pimple Avalanche” the best. When it’s screened in public, there’s this quiet pause in the audience while they’re reading the title and digesting what’s about to happen, and by the time they do, it’s too late. Those beauties start to careen down the guys head, groans of disgust fill the air, and I get a smile of satisfaction every time.
“Bulimic Piñata” is my least favorite. Even though it’s presented in a satirical manner and the lady in the scene is having a good time helping the children, I still feel a little uneasy every time I see it because of the seriousness of the disorder.

5) What’s next for you Dave?
Hopefully not being attacked by a Bulimia Awareness group!
Currently, I’m helping on a short directed by Courtney Granner, which we hope to have finished by the end of the summer. I have several ideas that I’d like to work on after that. Plus, finishing up a powerful feature length screenplay about a guy who was conceived, born, and lives in a Chevelle.

Many Thanks for the Interview Dave! We look forward to seeing more of your work!
