Mike Lazzo, Why Are You Excited About the Future of Cartoons?
“What is the future of animation? I say money but Matt says The Jetsons or Futurama and Nick said live-action. Daniel also said live-action but then he is Nick’s younger brother. Jim says the future of live-action is animation and Loren says the cheapest form of animation is, in fact, live-action. You could think for a while on those last two.
Erik says that the question is too big and wants to know who wants to know. Ollie refused to answer the question and then looked down at her phone hoping it would ring.
I asked Pete. He says user-generated content and that it will have something to do with computers, which is probably not too far off. Pete also said, “it will start with a race war” and “it will happen here Sunday” but I’m not so sure about any of that.
Dave replied “Robots” (always a workable answer to almost anything) but then changed his answer to “1-D”.
Stacy says the future of animation is you.
But frankly this is an impossible question and can only be adequately addressed by the geniuses canvassed in the annual trade magazine issues on animation (money!).”

For our upcoming Channel Frederator awards party, we asked a bunch of animation folks to contribute to our program by answering the question, “Why Are You Excited About the Future of Cartoons?” And Fred’s essay was born.
