ANNIE AWARDS!
Hey gang, Butch Hartman here -
Well, last night in beautiful Glendale, California a magical ceremony occured. It’s called the “Annie Awards” and it’s sort of the Academy Awards of the animation industry. The exciting news is that both of the shows I exec produce - The Fairly Oddparents and Danny Phantom - were nominated for awards! A super-talented artist friend of mine named Ben Balistreri was nominated for both character designs AND storyboarding for Danny Phantom and another awesomely talented artist pal named Shaunt Niggogosian was nominated for storyboarding for Danny Phantom, too. Unfortunately neither one of these incredible gentlemen won the Annie (Avatar and JUniper Lee beat them out) but I wanted to at least acknowledge their incredible accomplishments on Danny Phantom in a public forum. Without awesome artists like these two guys, great shows like Danny would never get made in the first place.
And the other great news is that Fairly Oddparents was nominated for best overall animated TV production! Very cool! Unfortunately, though, we didn’t get that award either. The Annie went to the very deserving “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends”. A swell show over on Cartoon Network. Check it out sometime. (Don’t, like, switch off FOP to watch it or anything, you know, just, like, if you’re flipping channels or something, you know. Heh heh…)
Anyway, please join me in congratulating all the winners. The Annies are a blast and a great way to see some of the best animation on the planet. It’s always an honor to be involved. And look for FOP and Danny Phantom to be there again next year!

Well, I wish FOP or Danny would have won anything, but at least FOP gets a new chance next year. Congrats to the winners anyway.

Congratulations on the nomination, and congratulations to the winners. If you have to lose, Foster’s is a great show to lose to.

What can i say… Critics stink. Fosters… Not so great to loose to (cant see more than 6 episodes as it’s overly long, not detailed enough and yet not impacting with it’s simplicity, the charactars are lame, etc.) But Avatar (despite being just another Anime influenced western piece) had O.K. animation, i guess, so loosing to that was sort of OK, even if the show pales in comparioson to Danny in other, more crucial, areas (like being funny and not taking itself too seriously, not being overly violent, etc.).

WE know what the best overall animated TV production is. It’s the one with the just-above South Park and Bullwinkle foreground drawing style, the lush, articulate scoring and foley, the George Lucas pacing, the ‘little bit of Yellow Submarine’ backgrounds, the specialty episodes that tribute and spoof classics at the same time, the stuff that goes WAY over kids’ heads and still gets past Viacom’s S&P…

Great way of putting it Butch. I like your optimism about the situation. You’ll get um next year! I LOVED the little bit you wrote about “Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends”. I was actually laughing out loud. Amazing eh?!

Totally awesome! I love FHFIF but I also like Danny Phantom even more! I really wish it could have won - haha. Anyways, keep up the awesome work you guys!

Foster’s is a great show, as is DP and FOP also. HAha, the last sentence was quite funny.
Still, being nominated is already pretty good. Foster’s is slowly following the footsteps of Dexter’s Laboratory.
A lot of the shows on Cartoon NEtwork are very deserving, like Ed Edd and Eddy, Foster’s (one of my favorites!!), Cow and Chicken, Tom and Jerry and Dexter’s Laboratory. Still, congrats!!

DP and FOP are amazing shows - congratulations on the nominations! FHFIF is pretty cool, but i would still rather watch DP.
