I’ll be going back into the studio tomorrow morning to record some extra Ungus the Unpleasant lines to be heard in the background while he’s offscreen. Here’s what I’ve decided to yell:
- You odious, inscolent exuse for a festering pile of echidna doo-doo!
- I disagree significantly with your ideals, dumb-head!
- I wield a club, which requires a great deal of skill! I carved it myself using a tree stump and a hamster!
- Despite the fact that I have only one eye, thus limiting my depth perception, these ear-horn-things on my head give me a hightened sense of beating the crud out of you!
- I actually stand in this same spot all day and swing the club around, which accounts for my large, muscular arms, yet useless and tiny legs!
- Most things make me terribly angry, but nothing angers me than seafaring livestock, which seems to run rampant in this area!
A little more to whet your collective blog-going appetite. The rest of the animation comes back from overseas on Monday! I am excited to a degree that scares babies and small rodents.

I’ve heard from a lot of people from around the world asking if MooBeard will air in their country. The fact of the matter is, I don’t know. In previous years, Oh Yeah has aired in some places and not others, but by the time it’s done, this will no longer be known as Oh Yeah Cartoons so it can be promoted as a new show. That said, if you want to see the new season of Oh Yeah Cartoons in your country, find out the address of your country’s Nickelodeon (or whoever airs Nickelodeon product in your country) and send them a letter telling them you’re excited to see the show! Get your friends to write letters! Tell them you want to see MooBeard! I haven’t been blogging much since we shipped because I didn’t think I had much to talk about, but really, looking through my files, I’ve got a lot of stuff that I’m not using that you might be interested in seeing.
I pretty much had the colors for my main characters figured out when I started the short, but I’m no professional colorist, so I left that to Mr Chris Hacker. He’s a color designer on My Life as a Teenage Robot, and that’s all the resume I’d ever need to see, considering that show has some of my favorite color design ever.
I gave him the color I had already devised myself (1), but told him I’d be happy to see some other options. He came up with (2) and (3), which showcase more of a classic 1940s approach. For those of you who have seen the old Fleischer “Gulliver’s Travels” [Read more…]
WOOHOO! I just got to see the first pencil tests from the MooBeard short, and they’re amazing!! I guess I didn’t have to worry so much after all. The overseas animators really seem to understand the characters and the overall look, plus they didn’t mess up any of my layout drawings. The fight scenes and run/walk cycles look especially good, and the effects animation of the jet pack smoke looks downright theatrical! Sailor Bird looks a little off here and there in the eyes (I doubt anybody but me would notice it), but overall, I’m very happy with what I’ve seen so far.
Well, folks, this is my last week on MooBeard, so it’s time to unload some of the best remaining fanstuff!
