MooBeard: The Cow Pirate

A Cow of a Different Color

I haven’t been blogging much since we shipped because I didn’t think I had much to talk about, but really, looking through my files, I’ve got a lot of stuff that I’m not using that you might be interested in seeing.

I pretty much had the colors for my main characters figured out when I started the short, but I’m no professional colorist, so I left that to Mr Chris Hacker. He’s a color designer on My Life as a Teenage Robot, and that’s all the resume I’d ever need to see, considering that show has some of my favorite color design ever.

I gave him the color I had already devised myself (1), but told him I’d be happy to see some other options. He came up with (2) and (3), which showcase more of a classic 1940s approach. For those of you who have seen the old Fleischer “Gulliver’s Travels” film, I can see him hanging out with Gabby in those two color options. It looks wicked-cool, but I didn’t think it’d be as memorable of a color scheme in the long run.

He also prepared (4) which was my color sceme, tweaked for TV-safeness and subtlety plus with a blue sash to break up all the yellow and red. I really liked it and decided to go with that one.

I like number 4 the best as well.

I’m so used to seeing the yellow sash-definitely don’t like #2 & 3- 4 is better than 2 & 3, but why change it? For the age group, I think the brighter the better!

Televisions can only handle a finite number of colors. If a red is too bright, it’ll look all weird. I like the blue sash because it breaks up the monotany of red and yellow. I think it’s way spiff.

The great and powerful Kyle has spoken- spiff on , my son :)!
(you’ve always had a way with color)

I love the blue sash. it makes him look less like a clown. Well, he never really looked like a clown, but now he looks…less like one…

Indeed, the 4th one is the best!
