HERE is a peek at Gailard from our section of Six Monsters.
He was textured, lit, and comped by Keith McMenamy.

looks like keith knows what he’s doin,
i wonder though does keith know that he’s gonna have to wait till you resolve your issues with your former employees or are they not a priority anymore?

Don’t worry about Keith, he’s a professional. Also, I posted some Buck stuff earlier today. Perhaps you’d like to post in there as well? http://frederatorblogs.com/post/2947

animation looks awesome!

Thanks Stephen. This is one of the shots I animated. It’s a quick one, but it’s got only Gailard in it, so it was a great one to start lighting and materials with.

WOW! That looks incredible! What were the steps for making this? (how was Gailard’s transparency done?) And, that is one EXPENSIVE water bottle… Really great job guys!

Thanks. The transparency is a several step process. Different passes are run out of Maya to isolate Gailard from the table, the props from the character, the foreground from the bckground, etc. There are also two different glow passes, an ambient occlusion pass (to strengthen contrast) and different passes for the body, bow tie, eyes, etc. These passes are all taken into Shake, adjusted there, motioned blurred, and written out. I’ll see if Keith has time to write up something on how he’s achieving the final look.

Keith’s very good. He just finished a stint at the Mill in NYC, and was a lighter on Big Idea’s “Jonah” among other things.
