MATH LESSON
Hey everyone. Guess what? I’m really late to the Monster party. That’s right. It’s not just the Floyd and Dan show. I’ve finally gotten a chance to post some of the character models for our segment, called MATH LESSON.
First up, is Little CATHY, I pretty much embraced my graphic design sensibilities for our sequence and went in a very modern “retro” direction with their form and construction.
And here is Gailard. I wanted to stay true to Alex Kirwan’s beautiful designs but still put a little bit of my personality into the overall aesthetic.
I originally wanted to go the stop motion route with our short but just couldn’t commit to it in the time frame. Would have been sweet to do a RANKIN BASS segment in the middle of all of the CG and 2D animationo. What do you guys think?

These look really nice. I’m glad you have eyebrows on your Gailard. We have them on ours as well, and were debating getting rid of them. I think we’ll keep them.

I embelllished a little here and there. Alex did Gailard last and for a while there he looked like a spoon or some kind of vegetable. I think eyebrows are a forgiveable addition and needed for expression. I burned mine off once and no one could tell when I was pissed off so I drew them back on with a sharpie.

The characters look great! I know what you mean about staying true to Alex Kirwan’s model sheets. His initial designs were too fabulous to ignore.
