A buddy for Flavio

After seeing Mike’s post of his Flavio sculpt, I thought we’d show one we did of Gailard. This early sculpt was done by Kevin Wisdom. The final character model is shaping up to look a bit different than this version, but there are some elements that carried through.

He’s actually just made from soft clay. I’d have to ask Kevin what kind.
We don’t usually do maquettes for characters, but Gailard didn’t have a whole lot of design work done on him when we first got him. I think the initial drawing we got was light pencil on a post-it or something.

Looks a little like BOOBERRY. IS that made from IVORY SOAP? Very nice….

Hey that’s cool! Do you always do maquettes of each character before modeling in 3d? If not, then why just this one and not the others in the film?

hehe… no it’s not soap. It’s actually just good ol’ fashioned super sculpey. I usually don’t have the time to make a maquette before I model a character but I just felt inspired on this one. And I had a big block of sculpey sitting on my desk just beggin’ me to mold it into something. I started this at the same time as the 3D version and used it here and there for working out details… but for the most part, it was just for fun. I hope to do more in the furure.
