Everyone’s pal, Floyd Bishop, sent me this link to a website full of toy inspired art. Some of the work is really cool - it was posted as April 1st, so it could all be a gag, but still some really fun artwork on the site. Check it out HERE!
Hmmm..toy inspried art……maybe I should try that…..nah, I’ll just stick to some custom figures for now. I’ve got several in the planning stages, just have to figure out how to give up sleep and have enough hours in the day to do them!
I’ll open some more figures while I ponder a life without sleep…
In case you hadn’t seen these Gears of War figures - they’re coming out soon, sometime this month. Here’s a look at their packaging art HERE! I can’t say I found too much interest in the game, but I know a lot of people out there that loved it. The figures look very well done, but NECA always seems to do a great job on their sculpting work.
Now, go borrow that saw rifle and get your figures open!
So, I picked up the snap-on armor version of Iron Man and his Mark01 suit. Both figures are pretty cool. They got fewer joints than the Marvel Legends figures - that might be to make them more kid friendly? The sculpts are nice on them, and the paint apps are good on the two I got (although I usually compare several in store before I buy them) I can’t really say the Tony Stark sculpt looks terribly similar to Robert Downey Jr, but he definitely looks like “Stark”. The packaging is typical packaging and looks nice. They added a nice touch to the card inserts - the inside of the package looks like the internal side of the armor, so that’s a nifty little addition. I apologize for not having pictures of the guys I bought, but my wife has been finishing the yearbook for our daughter’s school - so [Read more…]
Go! Go, Speed Racer!! I was just out at Target over lunch and they had put out all the new Speed Racer movie figures. Lots of different sets and sizes. I didn’t pick any up….yet. They have sets of 4″ figures with their vehicles, which all looked really cool. They reminded me of the old M.A.S.K. toys. (an incredibly cool series of toys from the 80’s that I’m VERY surprised hasn’t been updated yet!) They also had a lot of Hot Wheels type tracks and cars. Small models of the cars, and a large set of a 6 or 7 inch Speed Racer and scaled Mach 5. They had small 2 packs of the 4 inch figures with small motorcycle type vehicles as well. So, everyone can enjoy Speed depending on your price point! [Read more…]
Get ready for some action - Gladiator style! These guys will be able to knock any of your other figures off their shelves with large vinyl wrapped pieces of foam!! This show was so much fun to watch when I was a kid and I loved the new series, so to have action figures will be cool. JAKKS Pacific is doing them - the same guys that have been doing wrestling figures forever - so the Gladiators should turn out looking pretty nice! We just have to wait til spring of ‘09! Here’s the press release from JAKKS website;

Yeah, they did make toys for this movie. I know the figure of Sting in metallic blue underpants is one of my best friend’s prized figures in her collection. But maybe you wanted better ones, maybe you wanted a full scaled Sandworm to wreak havoc on your figures? Well, throw a little imagination out there and a whole lot of building block and you can build your own set - just like this intrepid toybuilder HERE! Just goes to show you, you can build darn near anything with LEGO’s! All it takes is a little imagination and side of insanity! And if you’re not a clever builder, or have access to a truckload of LEGO’s, then just enlist the help of a furry friend and a sock!
Now go dump those LEGO’s on the floor and start your Neverending Story figure set!
Figures.com has an article asking where are the figures of Krull? Linkage It’s a good question - I know figures of these guys would have gone lumped right in with the Star Wars figures! These are fun articles these guys do - they even go so far as to describe what the figures should have come with. I mean, what kid in the 80’s didn’t have talks with their pals about what figures would be cool if they made? My buddy and I had in our heads that we were going to write to Hasbro with great ideas for new Transformers and G.I. Joes. We spent days dreaming up ideas and coloring them, writing backstories and organizing it all. Heck, we even typed it all up, my brother had a typewriter so we thought we really had something! We had this crazy notion of Hasbro realizing they couldn’t live without our [Read more…]
This is to show up all those kids zipping around on those “Heelies” shoes! You strap these on, and if you manage to NOT fall on your rear, and go zipping down the street - or office hallway. The cool thing with these is that the wheels light up and flash as they’re moving! Check it out HERE! That site has a lot of other cool toys as well. I’m not much into the rave scene, so I’m not sure if that stuff is all new or not - but it’s new to me! So, if you’re a little leary of jumping right into buying action figures, then start out easy with some crazy light up heel skates! You’ll be the envy of your accounting firm!
And if you get a pair of these - you’d have to open them!
Thanks to Funko, now one of the creatures that has haunted my nightmares most of my life can be mine - and help me save money! Here, they have made a Sleestak in all his cheesey goodness. I always felt they should have made toys from Land of the Lost, but that never happened. But with Will Ferrel doing a movie based on the old series, maybe we’ll see figures? It amazes me that these things scared me as a child, with their slow moving lumber and icessant hissing. At least they had the friendy brown one from Harvard - Enoc, I think it was? I still watched and loved the show, even though they haunted me (my brothers had a little something to do with the fear of them). My Dad had these snowmobile gloves that looked just like Sleestak claws, and my brothers would get those and hide in [Read more…]
