Kyle + Rosemary

A geek playing a geek = $m@r+n3$$

So, having completed voice casting, after much painful deliberation (there were many great candidates) I decided on Wil Wheaton for the voice of Kyle. I’d call this an inspired casting choice; for one thing, Wil is a self-proclaimed geek, and for another, he runs his own hawesome weblog, in which he professes his geek-ness several times a week. But Wil’s entries are more than just that; he’s also an accomplished writer who has published a few books, and his blogs are thoughtful, funny, and real reflections of his feelings and life.

I just wanted to share this blog entry of Wil’s with y’all. It made me smile. The web is a wonderful thing, ain’t it? See, we as directors and creators go through the casting process with often rarely a thought to the multiple lines of actors and actresses trooping through, hoping to get parts on our shows based on the quickest of auditions - auditions where they have to drive across town for just a few minutes in front of a microphone, saying the same lines that everyone else says and hoping to stand out. They are just as excited to get a part as we are when we sell a show. It’s really nice to have a little insight into their lives once in a while. Thanks for sharing, Wil!

Yay Wil!!! I was lucky enough to hear all of Jun’s auditions, and boy were there some really great ones!! Wil’s did have an extra special “something” though..He will be a great Kyle!!

Jun, that was a great, flattering, deserved post from Wil. Congrats on your cast.

I imagine I’m just one of the first of many who will follow Wil here and after much admiration of art and bloggy goodness I have added your blog to my daily reading list…

So how about a FAQ entry to catch us latecomers up?

Having spent many, many hours casting voices, and watching endless hours of kids vids, I have to say ‘good choice.’
You won’t be disappointed.

Good luck with the show!

Good going! Way to pick Wil!

(I mean, everyone else knew it ahead of time–we’re just glad you figured it out!)

Bet you didn’t know you’d get a bunch of new regulars today huh? :)

Now I get to start diggin’ through the old posts and catch up, but so far I like what I’ve seen, very enjoyable to read. And of course, mad props for casting Wil ;)

I love Wil’s work! You rarely find someone so genuine in his line of work. He just seems to add a sparkle to every project he touches.

Oh, yes! I must find this now. I hope it shows up in Canada. Wil’s voice work is great.

I discovered this through a link in Wil’s blog, and the series looks fantastic. I guess I don’t understand what the social barrier between Goths and geeks is supposed to be — most of the goths I know (including half of my current roleplaying campaign) are geeky/fannish. But I’ll have to look for this show when it comes out….

Heh, I figured their dress/philosophy about the world might separate em. But in reality, I just couldn’t think of another majorly defined social group that was heavily into MMORPG’s. So that’s my lame excuse.

I’m here via Wil’s blog as well, Jun, and I’m looking forward to seeing this new venture as well. Good luck with it!

Wil’s a superb choice! He’s got more soul than anyone I’ve read in years. He’ll do ya proud.

WOO HOO!!!!!!!
Good job landing the best man for the job! I’ll be watching JUST because it’s Wil and he -is- so damn hawesome!!!!!

You couldn’t have picked a better geek to play your geek. We definitely will watch just to hear Wil :)

Fantastic. Wil will no doubt me an asset to the show. Hawsome!

I am here via Wil’s blog. I love the cartoons that come from Frederator and am excited to get hooked on another. This may be almost as inspired a choice as picking Jay Leno to be the Crimson Chin.

I’m one of many, I’m sure, who are here via Wil’s blog. I’m a huge fan of Wil’s, so I’m glad you finally picked him. We all knew you would all along :)

Goth/Geek is very interesting. Though back in my day (15+ years ago? yikes!) There was a bigger gap between

Socially awkward nerd/geek/showerless types

and the

Goth/DRAMAclub/socially flamboyant (in their own circle) types.

Or more simply put, introverts vs extrovert neither of which fit in. ramble…ramble…ramble…

Really looking forward to your show! Our whole family plays WoW (hubby, me and our 6 year old daughter). Yes, we even took her to BlizzCon, indoctrinating her in the ways of all that is geekdom (btw - she is half-goth on my side from a well misspent youth).

My guy runs a website devoted to MMOGs that you might like: http://www.gamebunny.com . He’s also a voice actor, and we pray to the gods of Azgalor that one day he will book such a HAWESOME show as the one you are creating.

Yummy Cupcakes is amazing, but we’re 2 blocks from the new Porto’s. Mmmmmmmm Porto’s…

Yeah! The new Porto’s rocks!!

Linked from Wil’s blog…. just have to say I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Casting Wil was a wise choice. I think I’ll call this weekend and order cable so I can start watching this show as soon as it airs. :) Thanks for giving a geek a chance to shine.

Yaaaaaay!
Great choice of casting, that. Can’t wait to see the series!
: )

Jun; I love the look of your show!
Your casting is great and wish you continued fun!
Take care and look forward in seeing more!
Talk soon!
Your Cartoon Pal….. Jeff

So happy you chose Wil! Congrats, and I can’t wait to see the show!

Yay! Kyle has a voice! Gratz to you both for a great match. Now what about Rosemary?

I, too, came to here from Wil’s blog. I actually don’t have anything to say about the project you two have going on, but I had to tell you that I love the backgrounds on this site. I was surprised when I came to this page again and the background was completely different, and even more pleased when I hit refresh to see if there’d be another change.

Jackpot Jun!

I’ll watch because it’s Wil!
