Ashley Kahn’s “The House That Trane Built”

Ashey Kahn is an author and radio reporter for NPR who followed me at my college radio station about 20 years after. We got to know each other a little about five years ago, and I got turned on to his series of behind-the-jazz-scenes books.

The latest is perfect for someone like me, an obsesssive for how records get made and how record companies with a vision get through the corporate gauntlet to produce great work. If you like jazz, or Coltrane or Miles, or the record biz, or just great artists, you’ll get a kick out of all of these.

Fred:
Thanks for the kind and supportive words, man! One small thing though . . . as much as I’d like to admit to a 20-year gap ‘tween us at that college radio station (can we say that it was Columbia U’s WKCR?) I was really just a few years behind you, like 6 or 7.
Must be that youthful spirit I still manage to exude . . .;)
Keep doing what you’re doing Fred. You are a true inspirer!!!
