Dion & the Belmonts.

Dion is truly one of the greatest singers of the last 50 years. (Anyone care to disagree?) The great songs prove it, but a wonderful trifle like might give some better manifest evidence.
(I posted the cooler album cover, but to be fair my pristinely mastered version comes from my friend Richard Foos’ incredible Doo-Wop Box.)

Way back when as the music director of a PA oldies radio station (WAGO - All Golden Oldies), I had the thrill of phone interviewing Dion. At that time, he was in the middle of a career resurgence, and I remember asking him what it felt like being the elder statesman of the NYC music scene (it was around that time artists like Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, and Lou Reed were all paying him tribute). He gave me a backstage invite for a Philly show later that week, but I got sicker than I ever got and wound up missing meeting not only him, but Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, Dave Edmunds and others. Thanks, Fred, for inspiring me to dig out my scratchy Dion lp’s.
