Country Classix Postcard # 3!
July 9th, 2007

Here’s another in my series of “Country Cassix” Postcards.
All the titles come from old timey country songs.
This poor chap’s broken hearted because his sweetheart’s just left on the train. I don’t think she’s coming back either.
Got a favorite classic country song title?

So what is it about great artists –R. Crumb, John Kricfalusi, Joey Ahlbum– liking those vintage 78 rpm records?

OK, the fact that Fred is mentioning me in the same sentence as R. Crumb and John K. is too cool for words.

I missed the “classic” part of the request. Here are a few:
“There’s a Tear In My Beer” - Hank Williams http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQj-gdYW60Q
“I Walk The Line” - Johnny Cash

Yes, those are all good ones. How ’bout “My Bucket’s Got a Hole In It” also by Hank and also about beer?

“She’s Actin Single, I’m Drinkin Doubles” (Gary Stewart from one of my absolute favorite country records of all-time, Out of Hand) is my official submission
backups:
“It’s Hard to Kiss the Lips at Night That Chew Your Ass Out All Day Long” (Notorious Cherry Bombs aka Rodney Crowell plus some of Nashville’s finest session players. a supergroup of sorts that put out a dreadful record, except for this gem)
Nobody in His Right Mind Would’ve Left Her (George Strait)
It’s Not Love, but It’s Not Bad (Merle Haggard)
Pardon Me, I’ve Got Someone to Kill (Johnny Paycheck)

Wow! Those are all great. I also like “Wrek on the Highway”,”I am a Man of Constant Sorrow”, and “Cotton Eyed Joe”. I’ll bet George Jones has some good ones too!
