The Creation Of Dude and other stuff.
Greetings True Believers!
There’s been alot of doin’s a transpirin’ here at Hero Heights central over the past week. But first things first. The image above is a watercolor painting I spent a couple of days on. This piece marks the first time the cast of Hero Heights has been colored! The reason I painted it was for the Oh Yeah gallery. The “Don” of the Oh Yeah Family Fred Seibert wants a piece of artwork from every creator to hang on the walls at the studio. So there you have it. I had a great time painting it! I’ve had the idea to paint it since last summer when I spent a month travelling Europe, where I got to see Michelangelo’s Creation Of Man from the Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. I thought to myself, “Self, how can you take this brilliant world famous masterpiece of fine Renaissance art and interpret it in a completely immature way just for a cheap laugh?” Then it hit me! “I know! I’ll put Smart Alec in the place of God. Instead of angels, Olympia, Mindy 500 and Electrisha. As a finishing touch I stuck Strikeout in the place of Adam. Yeah it’s dorky, but I like it!
In other news we held auditions for voices on Wednesday. Our wonderful Casting Supervisor Meredith Layne set us up with a very talented group of actors. Selecting the proper voice has been the hardest part of the production thus far. But we had to decide by today because the recording session is set for Thursday December the 8th. Here is the cast!
Smart Alec: Jessica DiCiccio
Strikeout: Annie Mumolo
Olympia: Hynden Walch
Electrisha: Becky Thyre
Mindy 500: Karen Malina White
We have an all female cast! Sorry but I won’t be playing any of the girls myself like Claudia Spinelli, Melissa Wolf, and Kevin Kolde wanted me to. Who wants to hear a 10 year old little girl sounding like a effeminate Herman Munster? For those of you that don’t know, I have a VERY deep voice, and everytime I pitch, my girl voices are funny but for the wrong reasons I think
We also spent the week trimming the script and the storyboard. We ended up cutting about 40 lines of dialogue and about 150 panels. Phew! It was tough to do but we managed to trim the fat without affecting the taste of the steak! My partner in crime Bill Ho did a fantastic job of taping together and renumbering the mangled storyboards, while I wore out the delete button on my computer with the script. Larry, Eric, Therese, Claudia, Kevin Melissa……You guys were right. The story flows way better now!

Raul! You’re not doing a voice??!!! It’s such a shame the world won’t get to see the manly woman thing you are when you pitch

Maybe someday, when I create the right character for that manly woman voice I’ll share it! You’ll be the first to know.

Raul-
I was with you in the Sistine Chapel. What a great idea. I’m glad you’re applying your trip to your work.
