Flavio Clip!

I finally figured out how to get a small clip onto my computer (it was actually pretty easy in hindsight) so if you like, you can check out a small clip of Flavio here!
Hopefully no one minds what with the big notice across the screen but I’ve seen others put clips of their cartoons up so I imagine it’s okay.

P.S.:The clip is an mp4 file, so if it won’t open for you, download it to your desktop and open it with Quicktime directly.

Flavio Final Mix!

Well Flavio is finally finito!
It took me around nine months so it’s sort of like having a baby!Hard to believe really…

We mixed last Friday at Salami studios in North Hollywood and for the first time I got to see my film as a finished piece.

It was awesome!

I had such a blast working on this film and in some ways I am sad to see it come to a clse. In other ways I am very glad I am done… too many plates spinning in the air makes Mike a dull boy…

Flavio Revised Even NEWER Title card

After considering my friend Jeaux’s thoughts on the title card I posted the other day,as well as a few other people’s comments, I decided to revise the Flavio title card. I’m not sure it’s the final one yet as I am a bit torn. I like the first one as well becasue it’s colorful and fun and I like the which add to the whole layout. This one pops a bit better but the left side leaves me a bit flat… Whatchuthink?

Howdy all! Well, I am wrapping up finally with Flavio and getting down to the nitty gritty. I have a composer now, Kevin Manthei who I worked with on Xiaolin Showdown a few years back. He’s quite a talent. I also have sfx to approve and that’s about it, and we can mix this puppy.

As for the art in this post, months ago I did title cards for my film but after seeing them actually in front of the film I realized they sucked… so I redid them. This is the final result and I am much happier with them the way they turned out now.

For those that wonder, I painted these on my tablet PC with a program called ArtRage, which I think beats the snot out of Photoshop, Painter or any other graphics app out there geared towards painting.

Flavio ADR in the can!

Well on Friday we finally finished recording Flavio (for the 2nd time!) and I am very happy with the way it turned out. Mr. Rob Paulson lent his voice to Flavio and he did such a fantastic job on it too. I don’t know how many of you have ever seen an ADR session but it’s really hard to do. Basically the actor stands there watching the cartoon and tries to say the lines to match with the way the animation’s mouths are moving. No easy feat I can tell you!

But Rob managed to come through with flying colors! Such a pro!

Here’s a small clip of the ADR session, it might give you an idea how hard it is, Then again it might just confuse you. The first voice you hear is Rob whispering trying to get ready for the next line as the tape machine rewinds. Then the scene starts and you hear three short beeps which are a sort of a countdown to the actual recording, and then you will hear my voice (as Flavio) and Rob’s voice at the same time as he tries to match the dialog. He tries it twice to get it right and messes up the second time. It ain’t easy for sure!

In the 2nd clip, it’s just Rob’s voice being played over the animation. What a great job he does. Sorry about the camera drift but I had to watch it with my own eyes instead of through the camera to make sure it worked. You can see also see glimpses of Justin the Sound Technician, Ginny McSwain our incredible Voice Director and Meridith Layne the awesome Casting Director
