Flavio record? DONE!
Well we’re all done with the recording now and let me tell you… the actors I picked did an incredible job! So funny! I am really satiifed with all my picks.
We got a great lady named Ginny McSwain to do the voice direction and she really seemd to be able to vocalize what I was looking for from the actors. Me? I would have said… “umm, do it, umm I dunno, more like… um, well, maybe if you do it …. um a different way.”
Ginny was great at vocalizing ways to change the emotional intent and little nuances to get the attitude we were looking for out of the actors. She was kind to me as well and supportive in my freshman effort of Voice Actor. She definitely had to break out the Acting 101 class book, and for that I am grateful.
As for me and my voice performance? Eh, I’m not gonna win no freakin’ Emmy Award that’s for sure, but I think it will basically work. I didn’t see any people pointing and snickering so that’s a good sign, but maybe they did it when I wasn’t looking.
I learned a lot today tho;…
-I learned you can’t say “freakin’ ” on TV today or, “poop” or “crap” but it’s okay to say “puke”. you also can’t say “oh spit!”
-I learned it’s clear that my talents lie in drawing and NOT in voice acting but Flavio is a pretty simple character which i think require basic acting skills and I’ve got those. Robert DeNiro I ain’t!
-I learned that doing a voice can pretty pretty dang hard on your vocal cords becasue mine fell like I have a cold now…
-I learned it’s too quiet in that booth when your by yourself and that it is extrely humbling when all you can see is people talking but can’t hear what they’re saying.
-I learned they serve killer chicken nuggets when you record and you can eat as many as you want, and no one looks at you funny, at least not to your face!
-I learned they’re called Voice Actors for a reason and also that they earn their money when they go into that booth.
-I learned that you can make the word “dang glass” funny just by the inflection of your voice.
In the end, it came off sounding exactly like I imagined it in my head and the way I always pitched it, so that’s good enough for me.
Eventually you’ll all have the chance to judge for yourselves!

right around October, Stephen… that’s when it will come back from overseas. I might put up a small bit of the animatic, but I’m not sure yet.

Well, mine won’t even be done in August and quite a few others won’t be as well, so they’re definitely not airing in August. I will look on your blog when your record is done for sure Stephen!

I think it was D.W. Griffith who originally said, “If we can’t go to Jersey, we’ll bring Jersey to us.”

Hmmm, wasn’t that was Joey Bag-o-freakin’-Donuts Griffino?

Awesome Mike! Nothing is more fun than listening to your characters come alive for the first time. PLUS they sounded exactly as you imagined, that’s even better. I had to change my train of thought as the actors added character nuances I didn’t expect, and while ultimately some of the character voices changed from what I had imagined their new additions weren’t just different but smart and better choices. And where the hell were the nuggets? I had no nuggets!

The record was fabulous!! Such talent in that room. Oh–and you forgot to mention “frickin’” on the “Can’t Say List”

Yeah “frickin’ ” too! Thanx! Also there was “Jeez”. Ya can’t say that because it refers to Jesus.
