Man Arctica:character development

January 21st, 2009

Hey guys……it’s Steve Lambe again. I’m a little overdue for a new post, so I figured I’d give you a little behind the scenes look at the development of the character, Man Arctica. Some of you may have seen Chris’s awesome textured version that Eric posted over the Christmas break.

Based on a meeting with Eric and some exchanged thumbnail sketches, here’s some of the concepts I came up with to hash out the character. The idea is make him superhero-ish but still weird and funny. He’s supposed to be the resident badass superhero in the Fanboy universe, but still totally goofy.

After looking through these, we picked the best ideas then merged it into one character.

In the end, he came out with this great Blue Falcon-ish vibe that we both loved. In cleanup, I threw in the idea that under all that ice, he still has his little skinny arms, and bald head. Maybe he even has tighty whites on under his ice trunks. Who knows?

The cool thing is that throughout the show, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of various Man Arctica merchandise….like this Kirby-esque carboard stand or the comic that Eric posted awhile back.

Guess that’s about it from me for now. See you in the next post!
