Holy Annie Nomination!
Hey guys! Your pal Eric here and I got to say I’m super blessed to be doing Fanboy this year and as an added cherry on top I was nominated for an Annie award for character design on Nickelodeon’s “The X’s”. In the last twelve years of designing I’ve come across some of the most awesome artist in this industry and I’ve been amazingly lucky to learn from some of the best designers around. My mentor is an artist named Carlos Huante. Carlos was the first guy to school me in the importance of anatomy, structure and form. He also turned me on to the beauty of designing creatures. Carlos is one of Hollywood’s most prestigious feature creature designers. He’s been up at Lucas’s ILM for the last eight to ten years creating cool monsters for the big screen if you get a chance check out is work at (www.carloshuanteart.com) Wow! After that I was introduced to the amazing masters of design like Tom Oreb, Ward Kimball, Ed Benedict, and Sterling Sturtevant to name a few (Thanks Julian Chaney) and was hooked. Around this time all the cool designs were coming out of Hanna Barbera/ Cartoon Network and Spumco in the early 90’s and I knew this is the coolest job ever. I’m a huge fan of many designers today with all the blogs around I just can’t keep up. But I thank them all for all the inspiring work they do and my best goes out to everyone on Sunday for we truly are blessed to be drawing cartoons for a living.

Carlos Huante is a great talent. If you like his stuff, I would suggest picking up “Monstruo: The Art of Carlos Huante”. It’s a great book.

Eric congrats on the Nomination. You deserve it. You never buried your talent in the ground with laziness but worked like an animal. You made yourself your own artist and it was really my pleasure to be a tiny part of your early art Education. I look forward to see what you will do in the future as I know some of the projects that you are working on….man everyone they are gonna be great…….Carlos
