Drinking and Drawing

Drinking and Drawing is an animated jam where animators and animation fans get together to draw and mingle. Those who join in the drawing fun participate in the creation of a film in just one night! Here’s how it happens:

Groups of animators are called up to the drawing area, 10 at a time. Each animator receives 8 blank note cards, as well as the last card from the animator that drew before them. They have exactly 10 minutes (that’s 75 seconds a card) to continue the animation on each card. At the end of that 10 minutes, all of the animators are kicked out of their seats (really, no lollygaging) and a new batch is called to the table.

This month Channel Frederator community manager and blogger Jeaux Janovsky stepped up and did his usual great job on a limited edition Drinking and Drawing poster. Carrie Miller did the printing chores, with an able assist by Angie Polk.

At January’s D+D we started a tradition of giving away a limited edition poster. This first one was illustrated and designed by our aces co-producer Lee Rubenstein.

It’s all over folks. Well, at least for now.
Last night we held the second New York City Drinking and Drawing. Once again, it was a wild success! We went through a 1,000 pack of index cards and had a great time.
I’m particularly excited about this Drinking and Drawing because we opted for crayons as the medium and it really seems like people had a great time with the Bunny theme.
We’ll be scannin’ and assembling over the next few days, but stay tuned for sneak previews of the finished product.

Guess what! You don’t have to register for Wednesday night’s Drinking & Drawing.
That’s right! There is no registration for this week’s New York City Drinking & Drawing. That means that if you decide to join us at the last minute it’s no big deal!
Registration is a great tool for us to know how many people are coming and to try to establish order at our Drinking & Drawing events, but we’ve recently decided that order is really quite boring.
So don’t worry about whether something cooler is going to come up on Wednesday night (nothing will, trust me).

We’re only days away, folks! We’re inching ever-closer to the second New York City Drinking & Drawing. I’m particularly excited about this one, because the theme is bunnies!
While gorillas (our last Drinking & Drawing theme) were boatloads of fun, bunnies seem to have such artistic mobility - from cute to disturbing. At Channel Frederator, we’ve had a large variety of bunnies: Bernard Derriman’s Everyone Else Has Had More Sex Than Me, Scott Friedman’s Joy Comes In the Morning, Ben Meinhardt’s Animals In Love, Elizabeth Ito’s Hot Cross Bunnies, In the Beginning from Choom Lam and more! We’ve had so many badass bunnies on Channel Frederator that we’ve even made an awards category for it!
So come out and draw your own cutesy bunny, or a killer bunny, or even a regular bunny that just goes to work in a cubicle all day.
