Drinking and Drawing

How it Works!

Drinking and Drawing is an animated jam where animators and animation fans get together to draw and mingle. Those who join in the drawing fun participate in the creation of a film in just one night! Here’s how it happens:

Groups of animators are called up to the drawing area, 10 at a time. Each animator receives 8 blank note cards, as well as the last card from the animator that drew before them. They have exactly 10 minutes (that’s 75 seconds a card) to continue the animation on each card. At the end of that 10 minutes, all of the animators are kicked out of their seats (really, no lollygaging) and a new batch is called to the table.

It ends up being a high-paced musical chairs way of doing an animation, and it’s loads of fun! Plus, by the end of the night, we have a short film (about 1 - 2 minutes long), created by dozens of animators!

After the festivities, we take these cards back to the studio, scan them, and bridge them together. You’re then able to check the film out a few days later at DrinkingAndDrawing.org and show it off to your friends.

Remember - While we welcome absolutely EVERYBODY to draw, you don’t have to! This is designed to be a minglin’, fun-havin’, networkin’ kind of event, and we hope to see you there!
