Just How Does Drinking and Drawing Work?

Drinking and Drawing is a super-fun animated jam where animators and animation fans get together to draw and mingle. Those who join in the drawing fun participate in the creation of a film in just one night! Here’s how it happens:
Groups of animators are called up to the drawing area, 10 at a time. Each animator receives 8 blank note cards, as well as the last card from the animator that drew before them. They have exactly 10 minutes (that’s 75 seconds a card) to continue the animation on each card. At the end of that 10 minutes, all of the animators are kicked out of their seats (really, no lollygaging) and a new batch is called to the table.
It ends up being a high-paced musical chairs way of doing an animation, and it’s loads of fun! Plus, by the end of the night, we have a short film (about 1 - 2 minutes long), created by dozens of animators! Our goal is to animate at least 1,000 cards.
DRINKING AND DRAWING
January 23rd 8PM
M1-5 Bar 52 Walker St. @ Church
Manhattan, NYC
After the festivities, Dan Meth and our fellow Frederator animators take these cards back to the studio, scan them, and bridge them together. You’re then able to check the film out a few days later at DrinkingAndDrawing.org and show it off to your friends.
Just so you know, pre-registered animators are given numbers before they even enter the bar, making them first in the running. If you’re not pre-registered, you have to wait your turn (which can be a while), so the sooner you get registered, the less time you have to wait to draw (but the more time you can spend boozin’ at the bar). You can pre-register by sending an e-mail to: savemeaplace@frederator.com.
Remember - While we welcome absolutely EVERYBODY to draw, you don’t have to! This is designed to be a minglin’, fun-havin’, networkin’ kind of event, and we hope to see you there!

The first public D+D event was on June 27, 2007 in Portland, Oregon, as part of the Platform Animation Festival. Check it out.
