Space Cowboy Episode 2 Backgrounds

January 29th, 2008

picture-127950.png

Yeah, I know… you haven’t seen Episode 1 yet. But take a look at the epic backgrounds that assistant Daisy Edwards has been creating. Looking at these makes me feel like I’m directing a 12 million-dollar summer blockbuster instead of a no-budget web toon. Who knows, maybe these cartoons will lead Space Cowboy to actually being a movie. I’d have Daisy to thank!

MM39 Soundtrack by Grandpa

January 28th, 2008

The newest Meth Minute Cartoon is my tribute to the strange animation of Eastern Europe. I’ve always been interested in all things Eastern Bloc, probably because my family lineage originates from Hungary, Belarus, Romania, etc. If we had never immigrated to America, I might be making cartoons like this:

When I had finished the animation and was looking for a background soundtrack, I knew it needed some E. European instrumentals to keep it authentic. The choice was obvious: My Hungarian-born grandfather Abraham Meth’s very own opera overture.

PBS Gets Crunk (Hebrew-style)

January 24th, 2008

One place I never thought I’d see my silly little web cartoons is PBS. But last night “Hebrew Crunk” was included in the final chapter of the 3-part documentary “The Jewish Americans”. Why I forgot to mention this on the blog BEFORE it aired is beyond me.
Maybe it will be on again. Check your local PBS listings. Thank you to director David Grubin for including my cartoon.
Here’s the cartoon:

By the way, this cartoon now has over a million views! Yayyyy-uh!

Hollywood Types

January 23rd, 2008

A caricature is basically worthless if no one can tell who it’s supposed to be. I drew these for an upcoming Meth Minute 39. The first commenter who correctly names all these Hollywood stars of past and present gets some free Frederator stuff mailed to them!

Ghaddaba, The Capital of Mars

January 4th, 2008

My newest intern, Daisy Edwards, is making some incredible backgrounds for an upcoming episode of the Meth Minute. Daisy comes from a far away location; Australia (not quite as far as Ghaddaba, the capital of Mars, but she managed to capture it perfectly nonetheless)

P-Cok: The Song

January 3rd, 2008

P-Cok

Oh man. Frederator’s gonna have to put out a cd of ALL the tunes in Dan’s…er, toons.
That would be cool.
You know what else is cool? The fact that we have the MP3 of Dan’s latest cartoon blazing up the internet, P-Cok!

Click Here to Pop Lock it Like P-COK!

This one will ruffle your feathers… With Groove.
As always enjoy the P-Cok Cartoon again, and again, and again…

The Mustard Water Song

January 3rd, 2008

picture-27753.png

Alot of folks have commented that the best part of the recent Meth Minute 39 cartoon was the the title-theme, “Mustard Water”. As a special bonus, you can now download a mp3 of it it right here.

To make this song, I asked my friend Andrew Landry to make a “80’s training montage” song and he nailed it perfectly. I wrote and sang these words on top of his instrumental:

Strike the hammer, coins fall to the floor
As you’re gathering the weapons for the war.
And if you want to be the best (yeah!)
You gotta take the test (mustard water!)
Climb to the sky, a champion will rise.

A stirring anthem for Stu indeed. Here’s the cartoon in it’s entirety.

Andrew’s music will also be featured in the next cartoon!

Intern Spotlight: James Sugrue

I currently have an intern working for me who’s so good that I’m cleaning up HIS roughs! (wait who’s the director here??).
James Sugrue is a recent graduate from SVA’s illustrious animation program and he definitely seems to have learned a lot there. You’ll be seeing his skills at work in upcoming Meth Minute Episodes, including a cartoon about Sid Vicious that he practically did all by himself. Here’s some YouTube clips of his character animation that he did for my series:
