12-Year Old Animators

June 13th, 2007

This morning I was a guest lecturer for a class of sixth-graders. The goal was to teach them a little about cartoons by having each of them animate a section of a short film. I asked them to draw five frames of themselves dancing and they did a great job. Take a look:

After scanning all the drawings in, we’ll cut the dance cycles to music, and then give each kid a DVD of the finished product. Also, it will go up on Youtube for the world to see.

By the way, one student drew this friendly little puffball who he told me, “is a bounty hunter named Jo-Jo”. Indeed.

Can’t wait to see the finished product! Wish we would do something like this at my school.

Me too!

I have some original works of a 8 year-old of long ago that’s comparable, if not much better. Can I submit that and have added to the reel?
