The Kelv Enthusiast: Further Resources
If you’ve been enjoying my little articles on the nation of Kelv and want to know more, please contact the following resources:
Buck Nutty
The fourth episode of my so-far-untitled weekly cartoon is going to star Buck Nutty. Buck originated in my college comic strip back at Syracuse University. Later on I did some online comics for the much-missed Blacktable.com and Buck Nutty made cameo appearances.
But this cartoon will be the first time that he’ll be fully animated and speaking dialogue (Youtube actor Mark Vitelli lends his voice to the role).
Buck is the kind of guy who makes every situation awkward. Everytime. And as spazzy as he is, you’ll want to see what he does next. Because it’ll be even more awkward.
Stu on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno
JAY: So, uh, I, uh hear you’re in a new cartoon.
STU: It’s the first cartoon I’ve ever been in.
JAY: Hehe. I understand you brought a clip with you.
STU: Yes. The is the scene where my brother Beef steals my Pez.
JAY: Let’s take a look. Click here.

Mandrill
Imagine if you came home to your apartment and there was a mandrill there. Just imagine. What would you do? What COULD you do except think to yourself “I wish there wasn’t a mandrill in my apartment”
The mandrill would basically now own your apartment. You would have to be it’s tenant until it killed you… or you would have to move somewhere it wouldn’t think to find you. Like perhaps Rensselaer.
Live Natty!
Just in case you missed the new music video “Live Natty” in the Channel Frederator podcast last week, here it is on it’s own:
Today is the OFFICIAL launch of the cartoon by the client. The National Jean Company has devised a massive PR campaign that will hopefully get this video in front of alot of people.
Check out these fake tabloid covers. They whizz by so fast in the video that you might miss some of the subtle hidden jokes within.
My First Animated Cartoon Ever, 1994
I was going through all the VHS tapes in my father’s basement and I found this:
When I was 17 I took a summer course at Pratt University in Brooklyn. Animation 101 taught by Stephen Mead (Are you out there, Mead?). It was a four week program and “Moon Saloon” was my final project.
Back before Flash or digital cameras… I drew every frame on paper and filmed them with a video camera rigged to capture 1/24 of a second at a time. A long outdated technique to say the least.
When Frederator co-worker Lee Rubenstein saw this he remarked “So I guess you’ve always been obsessed with aliens?” Seems that way, yes.
And I’ve always been a Led Zeppelin fan too.
*Oh wow… I just realized something cool. How ironic is it that for my first cartoon I used the first song of Led Zeppelin’s first album?
Girls and Sports
Last night I met up with Andrew Feinstein, artist and co-creator of syndicated comic strip “Girls And Sports”. It can be seen in over 125 newspapers across the country and now they are expanding it into an animated series!
I asked him to draw a picture of me in my sketchbook. I think it’s an uncannily accurate representation of me… except for the part where the girl is impressed.
The Magic of Blurry Backgrounds
Take a look at these screenshots from my in-progress cartoon “Beef and Stu”. To make the background really feel like it’s behind the characters I used some Photoshop blur effects. It’s exactly the look I was going for and was so easy to do… Too easy. It almost feels like cheating.
