I made this film a couple months ago. Because Kubrick’s films are so iconic, it was a fun challenge. I tried to replicate the sets and costumes as much as I could into cartoon form.

For the voices, two friends and I basically improvised off a loose storyboard. Mark Vitelli is the genius behind “Seven: A New Hope” and Derek “Nacho” Nason is a performer at Upright Citizen’s Brigade theatre and a frequent voice actor in my cartoons. (He’s brilliant as Roger in the Annie Mated series I did for Nerve.com) Look for him as a praying mantis in the upcoming “Cavalcade of Laughs” cartoon.

Whew… after months of production “Fred-Ex” is finally complete! And you’ll all have to wait until the special 1 year-anniversary Channel Frederator podcast to find out what it is exactly.

Here’s all I can tell you about it for now:

It features work by 15 of today’s most talented animators.

It’s kinda raunchy.

Today I passed the halfway mark on my “Six Monsters” short for Random Cartoons. Making 60 seconds of TV quality animation by yourself is seriously intense. I decided to invite the whole cartoon community to take a look at the in-progress state of it. If you any ideas, comments, advice, constructive criticism…I’m all ears. I love hearing the secrets of more experienced animators.

Here’s another mashup I made. It’s a combination of The Temptations’ “My Girl” with Air’s “Sexy Boy”. I call it “My Sexy Girl”. It’s been described as haunting.

I’m a big fan of “mashups”, hearing them and also making them. Here’s my first… an uncannily harmonious marriage of George Benson and 50 Cent. It sounds like the cosmos wanted them to jam… that’s the beauty of mashups.

Some of my favorite cartoons are mysterious dusty relics, swept under the animation rug by time. Today I’ll try to describe one I found in a 99 cent store years ago; “The Mystery of the Third Planet”.
My internet investigations have told me it’s a translated Russian cartoon from about 1987. The animation and backgrounds are completely amazing as you can see from these screenshots. It’s so strange and imaginative that it makes “Yellow Submarine” look like C-Span.

Grandpa is probably the coolest character in the upcoming Random Cartoon “Six Monsters”. He lies to people constantly to make them feel better. He never gets uptight, even about being dead!
