The Hollywood Reporter is reporting (imagine that) that Nickelodeon has ordered a pilot from DreamWorks Animation based on Monsters Vs Aliens.

DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg announced the news at the 37th Annual
J. P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in Boston.

DreamWorks and Nickelodeon announced last week their collaboration on
KUNG FU PANDA: THE SERIES and Nick is currently airing THE PENGUINS OF
MADAGASCAR, another collaboration.

DreamWorks will also have two TV specials in 2010 on NBC, a SCARED
SHREKLESS Halloween special and a KUNG FU PANDA holiday special.

Joe Barbera and Bill Hanna explain how to make TV cartoons

November 9th, 2008

Mark Mayerson has posted a great news clip he found from a CBC news story from 1961. In the clip, we see Joe Barbera and William Hanna walk the reporter through the stages of production from the initial layout to the final audio mix. One interesting note is that even though the news clip (and the cartoons at the time) were broadcast in black & white, the cartoons were all produced in color. Joe mentions that when everyone gets to see the cartoons in color, it will be really exciting. I would have to agree.

Maybe there’s hope yet for Hank Hill. Variety is reporting that  ABC may pick up “King of the Hill”, now that Fox has decided not to order any new episodes of the series. According to Variety:

Fox’s decision not to order any new episodes of “King of the Hill,” meanwhile, came just three days before the animated laffer posted its best ratings in a year, averaging a 4.3 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 on Sunday night.

Galaxy High

June 4th, 2008

What do “Gremlins”, “The Goonies“, “Ren & Stimpy“, and “Hotel California” have in common? The answer is the animated series “Galaxy High”.

“Galaxy High” premiered in September, 1986 on CBS and ran for 13 episodes until December of 1986. The series was created by movie director Chris Columbus, featured character designs by John Kricfalusi, and music and a theme song composed by Eagles member Don Felder. Galaxy High was about two earth teenagers who were accepted into the interstellar high school, Galaxy High School on the asteroid Flutor. Doyle, the school jock was popular on earth, but was a bit of an outsider at Galaxy High. Aimee, the female bookworm type on Earth was quite popular at her new school in space.

Though the show didn’t last too long, it left a lasting impression on many fans.
