Princess and the Frog Poster

May 18th, 2009

Princess and the Frog

Disney has released the poster for The Princess and the Frog. The first real trailer was released last week, and the reception was mixed.

Some people call it groundbreaking, while others call it a pale imitation of a tired formula. For their part, Disney has tried to put this film up on a pedestal, placing it alongside some of their best films. In fact, the whole 30 second beginning of the trailer is a montage of “remember when we made this movie and this movie?”

We’ll have to wait until the end of this year to see if the film is actually any good, but the stage is set for either a great cinematic triumph, or a huge let down. I think the film has potential, but there are some weird things in the trailer that don’t get my hopes up. I’m looking at you, baby armed prince.

“Princess and the Frog” release moves up

The Walt Disney Co. has moved up the release date for its 2D animated musical feature The Princess and the Frog to Dec. 11. Previously set to open on Christmas Day, the movie also will get an exclusive run in Los Angeles and New York starting Nov. 25, Variety reports.The movie now opens opposite the Peter Jackson film The Lovely Bones, leaving the Christmas Day family market to Fox’s Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.

It would appear that the mouse is afraid of Chipmunks? Things have changed quite a bit since the 90’s, when Disney put The Little Mermaid re release directly up against Fox Animation’s Anastasia. So did Fox films get better, maybe too good to compete with directly, or did Disney lose its nerve in the current economic climate?
