Fall In Love With “Eros, Inc.”

August 12th, 2009

eros-in.png

Michael May’s radical and romantic webcomic Eros, Inc. follows the unassuming Mot Fleishman as she is unexpectedly chosen to assume the role of “Cupid of Silverlake”. Eros, Inc. is featuring guest artists all week long (including Box Brown and Yuko Ota) and launching hardcopy versions of the first chapter this weekend.

Channel Frederator: What gave you the idea for “Eros, Inc”?

Michael May: I love writing about relationships, meeting someone for the first time, that first kiss, the heartbreak, the drama, the love; I’m obsessed with it. So I wanted to do a comic about that - an “investigation” into relationships, why we like who we like, why things fall apart… That really attracted me to the idea. And I had realized that not many people had played with the myth of Cupid, so I decided to go my own way with it. Which is to say I more or less went an entirely different [Read more…]

Alex Toth art

Herculoids

Adam Koford over at Drawn! has posted a great link to Alex Toth art. While some of it has been seen elsewhere, there are some great unpublished pieces. It would be great to see artwork of this caliber in a modern television series.

Monster Inside Of Me

June 16th, 2008

Floyd’s recent post on the fredblogs reminded me of a great video of Daniel Johnston’s Monster Inside Of Me by Eric Fensler, of GI Joe PSA fame.

Here’s some fanart I created for Daniel a few years ago.

My Big Mocca Score!

June 10th, 2008

Here’s some of the loot I got from the great Mocca Art Festival this year in NYC.

First off, here’s the cover to the mini I printed up to hand out to people. I guess I was inspired by Stephen Levinson’s gun-toting, wise ass Skunk, Prikk. The comic was called, Box Assassin Hitman: Box of Danger!!!
People seemed delighted to be given a free mini about a cardboard robot who can transform into a box and is a deadly hitman assassin. [Read more…]

Ever since I was little I wanted Super Powers like Superman.
And now I think I must have some sort of super power, because the latest edition of Refrederator: Pop Up Superman Monday recently got featured on the Juxtapoz (Hipster Art and Culture Mag) website.
If you ask me, I feel like I’m flying now, and it’s not just all the caffeine in me.
Keep Kryptonite away from me!

Channel Frederator #78

May 1st, 2007

May Day Channel Frederator Confessional: “When my sister was around five, she had a bear that would start singing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star if you squeezed its paw. One day, I snuck into her room, squeezed the bear’s paw when her back was turned, and dove under her bed to hide. I did this three times. Scared, she called my mom into the room to explain that her bear was magically singing without her touching it, and my mom accused her of lying.”

Hey Look!, submitted by Vincent Waller. An Oh Yeah! Cartoon adaptation of one of Harvey Kurtzman’s comic strips.

Bad Dad, submitted by Tasha Hollywood. Why is it that little British kids always sound so cute with their accents? They could be telling us to go to hell, and we’d just want to pinch their cheeks.

Vincent Waller on Harvey Kurtzman.

May 1st, 2007

Our friends at Pulp Secret have given their viewers a preview of today’s Channel Frederator episode featuring the Harvey Kurtzman cartoon ‘Hey Look!’ I mentioned a couple of weeks ago (we also posted the entire introduction to the only ‘Hey Look!’ reprint ever). And PS conducted a rare interview with animation director Vincent Waller talking about we came to produce the film.

Oh yeah, PS is also kicking off Spider-Man week in New York.

And here’s the CF episode with the entire Harvey cartoon:
