Channel Frederator: A Change is Gonna Come

September 15th, 2009

Channel Frederator.com: The world’s original cartoon podcast is turning 4 years old in November and to celebrate we’re giving out cash. You heard right.Starting on October 6th, we’re switching to a one cartoon format and giving every animator $50 to let us show their short. At the end of every month, the animator with the most online views in their debut week wins $200.   As usual, the deal is non-exclusive. You still own the rights to your short, we just want to share it with the world. Oh, and did we mention it’ll be shown on the world’s original cartoon podcast network? (Seriously. Wikipedia it.)But, wait there’s more!In November, we’re launching a new series called “Cartoon Hangover”. A show dedicated to bringing you the craziest animations on the web.   Animators: No longer do you have to censor your most insane (and R-rated) ideas. You now have a venue for [Read more…]

Time marches on…

I’m the worst animator in this picture.

As of today, I won’t be blogging for Frederator anymore. It has been a great run, and I thank Fred Seibert and Eric Homan for having me blog for so long.

I started blogging for Fred a few years back (2006?) when Fred asked me to write as a regular on the blog after doing some posts for the 6 Monsters production blog. During my run here, my life has changed a lot. I’ve moved (a few times), added another kid to my family, and changed jobs more times than I care to remember. Sometimes life gets in the way of blogging.

On the blog, I’ve tried to highlight things I thought were important and things that were interesting in the world of animation and entertainment, sometimes causing a stir. I also tried to pass along some knowledge of animation as it was passed to me. I got to [Read more…]

Comic Con: Too big, not big enough, or just right?

July 22nd, 2009

With Comic Con 2009 about to start, one of the big local stories here in San Diego is talk of expanding the convention center to hold even more people than it currently can. The convention started out as a couple of card tables and true comic book enthusiasts, but has ballooned to include movies, television, and video game exhibitors in addition to a ton of stuff for sale.

With an estimated 125,000 attendees this year, do you think Comic Con is too big, not big enough, or just right?

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet: A Game From the Mind of Michel Gagné

July 18th, 2009

This is the extended trailer for the upcoming Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet game by Michel Gagné.  You have probably seen his work before, in films such as The Iron Giant, Osmosis Jones, Ratatouille, and many others.

This game, in the same classic side scrolling shooter vein as Defender or Gradius, looks to bring every ounce of Michel Gagné’s signature art style to the genre. It is a marriage that looks beautiful.

“Lego Arcade” Michael Hickox

July 9th, 2009

Michael Hickox has done a great new short that takes people back to their arcade days in Lego Arcade. This was a lot of work, and the results are great.

“Ice Age 3″: What did you think?

July 8th, 2009

The Fox/Blue Sky film Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs has been filling theaters since its release on July 1st. As of this post, the film has done over $80 million in the US, and $148 million world wide.

While it was good to see Manny, Sid, Diego, and Scrat back in action, to me the film felt like an odd mix of a ride film and a sitcom. The really interesting character in the film was Buck, the one eyed weasel who helps our gang through the dino infested underworld in their adventure. Unlike some of the other big animated sequels, this film had more of an episodic feel to it. If you’ve ever seen an episode of a network television series where a woman has a baby, the odds are you’ll see some of the same gags. The neurtoic first time dad, the “get me some water” moment, and a super [Read more…]

Animation Magazine reports that Pat & Stan (formerly Pat & Stanley) has picked up a pan Europe deal to create capsule toys based on the property.

No word on any plans for a “Pat farting in the tub” toy.
