NNN in NYTimes

Channel Frederator’s company, Next New Networks, gets a profile in New York Times Magazine from Times TV critic Virginia Heffernan. Here’s an excerpt:

Viewers don’t go to it for any one video; they tune in for a sensibility, a lifestyle. The scene at Next New is techy, of course, but it’s also wholesome and nostalgic and low key and inventive and whimsical and frugal and enterprising.

“The kids in the Next New universe — like kids of hipster scenes immemorial — dress a certain way, talk a certain way, manifest a certain cosmology. You have to watch many videos to get the hang of it. But if it’s escape you’re looking for, and you can handle lots of ads for [Read more…]

Also announced in today’s Channel Frederator Awards episode was the winner of our Vanguard Award, Dan Meth. This award is juried by the programming team at Channel Frederator and is designed to honor someone that’s doing something very new for animation. We decided that Dan Meth was an excellent candidate. Not only is he working in a completely modern style - all digital and able to do every aspect on his own, but he is doing it successfully. Below is an essay written by Herb Scannell in recognition of Dan’s award: [Read more…]

May 27th, 2008

Watch the New Episode Here!

We bet some of you are still partying while the rest of us are at work suffering through post BBQ hangovers.

Us? Way too much root beer and a HUGE hot dog/hamburger/ketchup/mustard food-fight.

Luckily, we (and you) have this episode of Channel Fred to get you over the post-Memorial Day blues.

And lots of aspirin.

Punk Rock Post It Notes!

Many Thanks goes out to Fred for posting up the SXSW Poster I was lucky enough to design. It was a very fun project, and I’m very thankful it was so well received with that “hipster” crowd.
I’d like to point you all to the SXSW Tumblr page that was specifically designed for the Event, which also includes a few of my Early Conceptual, Punk Rock, Post It Note, Poster Designs.
That was a mouthful.
Enjoy!

Jeaux’s SXSW poster.

April 26th, 2008

Everyone who keeps up Channel Frederator knows how hip Jeaux Janovsky is, and the sharper eyed among you know how great an artist he is (just check out the cool CFA illos he’s been doing for the blog or his Drinking & Drawing poster). Jeaux’s not one to brag so it’s down to me that we haven’t posted this great poster he did for and Chan. Fred’s parent Next New Networks’ party (with our friends at Tumblr) at South by Southwest in March. His inspired modern take on the classic Filmore Auditorium psychedelic posters from the 60s quickly became the most collectible item at the SXSW conference.
