On the Bubble News

September 24th, 2008

Check out this new series being produced over at Worldwide Biggies. On the Bubble is a news show hosted by four college kids - an anchorwoman (the only one that takes the show seriously) and three goofy guys. The series does a good job of mocking very current events, a special challenge for animated content. It’s great to see the Internet finally enabling us to break that barrier. The series was created by Adam de la Peña (well known for his work on The Man Show and Crank Yankers) and written by Glasgow Phillips (South Park) and is part of a Sierra Mist campaign.

All in all, the animators over at Worldwide Biggies have done a great job. It’s great to see some really nice art and animation on an Internet series that probably turns around an episode a week.

Above you’ll find a promo for On the Bubble that’s running on the front page [Read more…]

Kaz as Kaz Can

July 14th, 2008

In 2007, comix legend Kaz made an animated pilot called Zoot Rumpus for Cartoon Network, starring a junkyard dog living in a seedily tumbledown Kaz-erific setting. Part One has been posted on You Tube. (Part Two will show up soon, and I will announce when it’s viewable.)

The show is currently without a home, so why don’t you media moguls out there start fighting over it like dogs fight over a large, meaty bone?

Kaz is no newcomer to the animated life, having worked on Spongebob Squarepants and Camp Lazlo. He is also the co-writer of Derek Drymon’s Diggs Tailwagger Nicktoons pilot.

A little Zoot trivia: Kaz used to draw another character named Zoot Rumpus, a roly-poly worse-for-wear fellow who appeared in Underworld strips and also taught kids about creating cartoons in a how-to-draw strip for the Nickelodeon Magazine Comic Book.

After the jump, an earlier contribution to animation history: Kaz’s Dr.Worm design appears in a They Might Be Giants video on Nickelodeon’s KaBlam!

June 16th, 2008

Floyd’s recent post on the fredblogs reminded me of a great video of Daniel Johnston’s Monster Inside Of Me by Eric Fensler, of GI Joe PSA fame.

Here’s some fanart I created for Daniel a few years ago.

Rob Schrab’s Fan Film Contest

May 30th, 2008

Reposted from Indy Mogul!

Not to sound too much like a shameless plug, but our friend Rob Schrab (who recently put together an episode of the 4-minute Film School) is encouraging fans to recreate the energy of his popular comic book series “SCUD: The Disposable Assassin” by means of a fan film contest. Rob co-created Channel 101, so he knows how valuable deadlines and obstructions can be to creating something.

If you’re a fan of Scud, or just like making stuff, check out all the information on his site. You can make whatever you want about SCUD, make it three minutes or less in length, and send him a link by July 31st.

We picked a few theories and gleefully combined them with Jeaux Janovsky’s illustrations of Casper’s many deaths for you.

Watch the New Episode Here!

We bet some of you are still partying while the rest of us are at work suffering through post BBQ hangovers.

Us? Way too much root beer and a HUGE hot dog/hamburger/ketchup/mustard food-fight.

Luckily, we (and you) have this episode of Channel Fred to get you over the post-Memorial Day blues.

And lots of aspirin.
