“Little Big Eater” animator and director Felipe Zuleta has a big appetite for animation. Of course, if your only options were cartoons or fried bovine intestines, you would too.

Channel Frederator: Who has influenced your work?

Felipe Zuleta: I try to study the filmmaking of Brad Bird, Hayao Miyazaki and Akira Kurosawa as much as I can - love going frame by frame, shot by shot though their films.

I also have a habit of “journeying into blogs”, ending up spending hours following links. For inspiration I like starting from Enrico Casarosa’s blog, Erwin Madrid’s blog and Mike Mac’s blog. Takashi Murakami’s work is really cool and inspirational.

CF: What is your favorite animation?

FZ: Ooh this is a tough one, there are so many great animations out there, I am particularly fond of Myazaki’s films, Pixar’s Films - love Samurai Jack.

CF: Do you have any upcoming projects you can tell us about?

FZ: Currently, I’m working on some ideas to begin developing my next short, I’m in the thumb-nailing/sketching stage. Making shorts is really fun, so I’ll definitely keep on doing it, and hopefully make a feature and series someday.

CF: What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?

FZ: Well, I have to say it was back home (Colombia), there is this street fast-food dish called chunchurria - it’s fried cow’s small intestine served with arepas (corn based bread-type things). While I was there many people seemed to be eating them quite happily. I didn’t like it though.

Thank you, Felipe!
