I’ve been noticing a trend in the animation community recently, and that’s Animators Who Rap. Maybe it’s something to do with all the timing and rhythm, but I think it’s a good thing.
Here’s a few of the best I’ve found across the internets. (Can I add myself to that list?)

I make music from time to time under the name Plankton. This is a song called “Y’all Soulz” from the What Whales Eat Sessions, 2004. Recently, my friend Ryan who runs a Net Label, Serac Label, digitally re-issued an album of mine called “15 YR Petting Zoo”. Even I don’t know how to classify it. It’s lower than lo-fi, and still a charming album. Download it for free. It will change your life.

Probably the most successful Playa in the Animation Rap game is the high pitched vocalist: MC Chris. He worked on a lot of notable Williams Street Studios Adult Swim shows, i.e. Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, the Brak Show, and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. He left in 2004, to concentrate on his Geek Gangsta recording career and hasn’t looked back since. Here he is performing his song, “Hijack” live on G4, after that’s finished you should check out his most famous song, Fett’s Vette, a rap tune about Bobba Fett from Star Wars.

Nockforce keep it locked down. This Brooklyn duo have a web series that takes place in a “Magical” mythical, elf riddled Brooklyn where the two main characters, animated versions of Ian Jones-Quartey and Jim Gisriel, riff on obscure and hilarious topics and don’t notice the craziness that ensues upon them.
Here’s the real life NF team with the ultimate party jam, aptly titled “Party Song” from their second EP, The Junior Novelization.

And finally, I’m not 100% sure about, so don’t quote me on it. I like the song so I have no problem featuring it here. Meet Devvo (aka: Darren Devonshire) a UK Chav Culture Icon. David Firth, who I think might be Devvo, of Salad Fingers fame follows him around, filming his life, in exchange for ciggarettes, alcohol, and small change. Devvo has used his bit of Internet fame to fuel his life-long dream of becoming a bonafide rap superstar. He’s pretty good, once you get past that accent, as is evident on “Donny Soldier”, a single from his album, “From Yorkshire to New York”.
