Here’s some of the loot I got from the great Mocca Art Festival this year in NYC.

First off, here’s the cover to the mini I printed up to hand out to people. I guess I was inspired by Stephen Levinson’s gun-toting, wise ass Skunk, Prikk. The comic was called, Box Assassin Hitman: Box of Danger!!!
People seemed delighted to be given a free mini about a cardboard robot who can transform into a box and is a deadly hitman assassin.
Andy Runton of Owly fame, loved the design and goofiness of the characters and story! Yay! Thanks Andy!

My biggest score of the day had to have been Michel Gondry’s comic, We Lost the War But Not the Battle.

Yes, THAT Michel Gondry. The director. He also drew me as my spirit animal: an Eastern European.

The fine people over at Picture Box published it, and had a slew of other equally great Merch at their table as well.

For instance this AMAZING Jim Woodring’s Visions of Frank Animated DVD Anthology. There are all kinds of surreal short films based on the art and comics of Jim Woodring by Japanese animators.

I especially like this, because I’ve been meaning to get into Jim Woodring’s art and comics for awhile now, and this was a perfect diving board into the world of Frank.

Speaking of Animation, I discovered an animator/artist by the name of Jesse Morgan Mcmanus. He was selling his beautiful prints along with dvd’s of his hand drawn animation for 5 bucks a pop. It’s very cool, unique, and beautiful to watch. Very inspiring.

There was also some animator there by the name of Bill Plympton. He drew me a dog on the back of one of his promotional post cards. Who’s he? I kid, I kid.
I don’t know about you, but sometimes, when I meet one of my animation heroes, I tend to get let down. This was not the case with Bill.
He was very nice and laid back, easy to talk to.

I checked out Dave Roman’s and Raina Telgemeier’s Comic Bakery booth and picked up Dave’s Teen Boat Starter Kit, issues 1-6. I’ve been wanting to crack this open for a while, and it’s a steal at 5 bucks for all issues!
Very Hilarious. Who wouldn’t love a comic about a teenager who can transform into a boat?
It was very cool seeing them again.

Top Shelf is my favorite comic book company out there, and I’ve been dying to get Jeffrey Brown’s Incredible Change-Bots. Jeffrey’s nostalgic homage/parody/moral fable of the shape changing robot genre. What I’ve read so far is pretty funny. I only wish I could’ve joined the fan club.

Overall, the event was fun despite the terrible heat. Everyone there was awesome and a pleasure to meet and chat with.
