Animated Johnny Cash

February 26th, 2008

In “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer” (also known as “The Mysterious Voyage of Our Homer”), Homer takes a bad trip after eating some “Insanity Chili” and meets his spirit guide, voiced by Johnny Cash. It was amazing to me how well Johnny Cash’s voice worked for animation. It’s a shame he didn’t do more voice work. Today would have been Johnny Cash’s 76th birthday.

I looked and looked for a clip from the show, but couldn’t find one. Here’s a clip of Johnny Cash singing with Oscar from Sesame Street instead.

Have a rotten day!

UPDATE:Watch the full episode here.

I worked on a lot of the character layouts for that sequence when I was On “The Simpson’s”, some original, some revisions and I totally agree that Johnny Cash’s voice was perfect for it. That whole sequence was so out there anyway and a lot of fun to do.

That was probably one of my favorite episodes. The trippy animation was really cool to see in a prime time show. Great stuff!
