Devices, A Channel Frederator Featured Film!

The Terrordactyls are a pretty cool band. And the fact that they got Kimya Dawson, of the Moldy Peaches on Devices, makes them a tiny bit cooler. But what really makes them Ultimate Cooler than all of that, is this sweet stop motion music video.

And it has Kazoos.

And we all know that we need more Kazoos. Tyrel Stendahl and Michael Cadiz know this.

1) Nobody lost any fingers, toes, or other body parts during filming of this right? (I hope not)
We managed to escape pretty much unscathed. Michael got a pretty nasty light bulb burn…and we both were left with pretty sore backs from kneeling on the floor under our camera stand made from brooms and coffee tables, but all appendages remain intact.

2) Who are some of your influences?
Musically?? Everything from those super smooth 90’s Disney duets, French pop, odd folk music, power ballads, Elliot Smith, Beck, the Moldy Peaches, blah blah…and then there are people like Jim Henson, Richard Scarry, and Maurice Sendak for which we would not be the same without.

3) Where did you get the inspiration for this charmingly lo-fi video? Did the music come first or the imagery of the scissors?
The music came first. The song is off an album we recently released. We wanted to make an animated video for the song but Flash seemed to slick and neither of us were ready to take on a hand drawn animation at the moment. Stop-motion seemed the most practical and low-tech for such a dorky song. We’ve also been working on a pitch bible for a kids craft show and have been watching a whole lot of old Sesame Street…we took a lot from that.

4) How did you guys manage to hook up with Kimya? (She’s awesome btw.) I also heard the song was featured in the film Juno. How did that come about? (that’s awesome as well btw.) [*Ed.Note: The internet lied to me. The Internet is full of bold faced lies boys and girls. Don’t trust it.] I haven’t seen Juno yet…. bad movie goer… i know…
Kimya is Awesome…but our song alas was not featured in Juno. There is a Youtube video slide show some kid made with our song set to Juno pictures, which is confusing for people. It was confusing for us.
We met Kimya in Seattle and a bunch of our friends went on tour with her a couple of years ago. Michael and I are big fans and think she has a wonderful voice. After Michael wrote that duet and we decided that it was way to awkward to sing together we asked Kimya and were thrilled when she accepted.

5) What are you working on currently?
Michael is editing another music video for my sister’s band St. Mannequins. We’re also getting ready for our spring tour, designing new t-shirts and goodies, and working on songs for our next album. Fun times.

PS- Don’t forget to check out the Terrordactyls on Itunes. All their songs are available and really good, so help them not to be broke.
Thanks for submitting Devices guys. We look forward to more videos from you’s two’s.
